One day my fan was fine now it is humming like a bird can i resolve this problem

My laptop was not being used for an extended period of time; due too I need a power cord. Company was sending me the wrong one time after time. When I was able to finally get the correct power cord. I plug it in let it charge over night. When I turned on the next morning, it started humming. Does this have anything to do with the bios, I have noticed my date is incorrect and I found limited direction on how to change the date in the bios. May try later. Building up the nerve so to speak. This computer, have my entire client financial list although is backup, this laptop has been so reliable since I purchased it years ago. In addition, I have family pictures from the early 20th century, that new technology can't load these pictures. I am making one last upgrade on this computer. Then it will be strictly for pictures to pass down. Or until, the come out with a program to handle the earlier prints.

Not yet. When I find the time I plan to try and switch out the power supply/jack in the back of the machine. I am hoping it is just a matter of a faulty connection. Thanks for asking.

Mark F K, truong808, does the cooling fan(s) blow or come on? If not, the system will sense tha ti is overheating and will shut down to prevent further damage. Also, a thermal sensor may be failing on the Mobo and thus keep the fan from initiating. The cheapest fix is to replace the fan. Worst case scenario is another Mobo may be the fix.

SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite C655-S5082. Won't power

Hi.

Take out the AC power jack and then remove the laptop battery. Plug AC power back in and see if the laptop will turn on. If it turns on let it boot the operating system and then shut down as normal, remove the power cord and reinsert the battery and again see if it will switch on. If it does then there has been a glitch with the battery. If it doesn't then there is a problem with the battery.

If the laptop won't switch on either with or without the battery then there is a possibility that the motherboard has developed a problem.

Good luck.

Computers allow us to connect with people from around the world, and successfully complete school and business work. How to Extend Windows 7's expiry date to 120 days.

‘Rearm’ trick on Windows 7 is done using the similar commands and steps withWindows Vista. Follow these steps to reset and extend activation grace period from 30 days to 120 days in Windows 7:
Install Windows 7 without any product activation key.
After installation is completed, use the Windows 7 for 30 days and wait for the remaining days left to activate Windows counting down to 0, or almost zero.
When the activation grace period (or evaluation trial period) is almost expired or ended, log on to Windows 7 desktop, and open a Command Prompt window (i.e. type Cmd in Start Search and hit Enter).
Type any of the following commands into the command prompt, and then hit Enter:
sysprep /generalize
slmgr.vbs –rearm
rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows
slmgr /rearm
Reboot Windows 7 to enjoy another 30 days of free usage without worrying about activation nor even need to crack Windows 7.
When the activation grace period countdown timer almost running down to 0 again, repeat the ‘rearm’ trick to enjoy another 30 days of Windows 7 for free. User can run the rearm command for maximum of 3 times.

IS IT SAFE TO KEEP THE LAPTOP BATTERY OUT FOR LONG PERIODS

Yes, it should be fine to remove the battery from the laptop if it is not being used, as there would be a minimal drain on the battery if left installed for an extended period.

Keeping the battery at approximately 75% charged should also be fine and would be recommended as part of a practice to extend the battery life that is advised with common battery maintenance instructions.

. Problem with PC Laptops My wife has an

Hi
Compressed air is not a good idea for as couple of reasons:

1. Sometimes there is moisture in the can that will be blasted onto the board
2. It can cause dust to get wedged tighter in the fan and sink area

The only real soloution is to strip the laptop and do a manual clean, this is quite simple on the advents, as all you need to do is remove the large cover on the laptop base to access the heatsink and grilles, you can dust out ( hoover) the fan area and the cooling vents, if this proves to be difficult, obtain some thermal paste, remove the screws retaining the heatsink and lift out the fan and sink assy,
Clean and replace after regreasing the cpu top with thermal grease. Make sure fan connector is attached then.
Tighten the screws in sequence, replace plastic cover

It overheats and turns off when i use it for a long period of time, even if it is on a hard surface.

It is overheating. The thermal sensor shuts down the system before damage occurs. First make sure your fan comes on. If it does then most likely you need to access the fan to clean out the dust and lint that has gathered between the exhaust of the fan and heatsink fins. You didn't list what type of laptop you have so I can't be more specific.

Battery usage

Yes simply because of the heat your computer makes it will deteriorate faster. If used for long periods take battery out and store in room temperature place. Remember that not using the battery for long periods(days-weeks) can be bad for your battery. So try to use it once in a while.
