Question about HP Pavilion dv8000t Notebook

Windows xp color problems

I have a HP dv8125nr laptop and something has caused the basic color pallet to change. I appear to have red & white, strips where I should have a solid background color. It also comes in on the internet windows. The window I'm typing in now has the same background.

I have attempted to change the setting in the control panel on the display settings, but have not solved the problem.

can anyone tell me how to restore the basic widows xp color palet.

I have also tried to restore the system to a date prior to the problem, but it does not clear this problem.

If you have a video card mounted in a PCI or AGP slot, take that out, blast the slot and the connector on the video card with compressed air, and put it back in.
If you're using motherboard-integrated graphics, do the same thing as above to all of your memory (RAM) modules. Also run memtest86 from a bootable floppy or CD. If it comes up with even just one error, you'll need to replace some RAM. Integrated graphics use system RAM as video memory, so faulty memory can cause the display 'artifacts'.

When I turn on my Dell Latitude D600 PC, the windows xp loading page appears. After it has loaded the screen turns black and does not make any further progress.

It appears that your display works fine until Windows XP loads. Try tapping the key when powering on the laptop. Select boot in safe mode and see if the laptop works. Here's a description of safe mode by Microsoft.

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words "Safe Mode" appear in the corners of the display to identify which Windows mode you are using. If an existing problem does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.

If you don't know the cause of the problem, you can use the process of elimination to help you find the problem. Try starting all of the programs you commonly use, including the programs in your Startup folder, one by one, to see if a program might be the cause of the problem.

If your display works in safe mode then you have a video driver issue or virus or software issue.

We bought a HP Pavilion DV-7 two days back. Now we find that often the screen flickers in such a way that white colour on the screen (regardless of whether it's in a specific application window, or the...

Changes in color in a laptop or a desktop screen from white to cyan are due to a malfunctioning cable. There is a cable that goes from the screen to the motherboard under the keyboard.Heat, movement of the screen etc will cause this. You should return this item and get another. This is especially important since you have only had it two days. Something went wrong in the manufacture of this laptop. All companies have a 30 day replacement policy and you would be smart to get this one swapped out as soon as possible.

My hp compaq nx9010 notebook is no longer displaying the color black on the Windows xp start up page or on some of my powerpoints and videos. The color black is replaced by a redish color.

It seems that someone changed the desktop background color. point the mouse somewhere in the middle of the desktop, (away from any icons) and right click the mouse, a menu will appear with several options. The bottom one says properties. Click that. Once done another (more advanced) menu will appear with several tabs at the top. Click on the second to last tab, labled, "Appearance". Once in this tab. Toward the bottom right side of this screen you will see 2 buttons one atop another labled, "Effects", (on top), and, "Advanced", (below). Click the advanced button. A new window will pop up with the first option being desktop in a drop-down menu. To it's immediate right you will see "color 1" with a drop-down menu directly below it. That is where you will select the new background, (desktop) color. Once you have selected the new color, click OK, then apply on the remaining screen, then OK once the color is set.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Have you tried hooking it up to an external monitor?
This would ensure that it's the screen and not the video card..
If you do that and you receive a good picture then it could be something as simple as a loose video cable. Or it could also mean something like a bad video card or the expensive one, a bad screen.
