If you can get into bios check and see if there is any type of alarm or auto on set up. If not or if its not that big of a deal just use the switch on the back of the power supply at night. Make sure you shut down your computer before switching this. It will definately keep the computer from turning on by itself.

Look for the Windows Update link on the Start Menu: Start - All Programs - Windows Update.

Click on Windows Update.

When you get to the Update area, look for a setting which tells the computer what time to automatically download and install Windows updates. These will be primarily software, drivers, program updates, etc., from Microsoft. It soulds as if your computer is automaticaly updating your computer, or checking for updates.

BTW, the default time for this as set in Windows is 3 AM, local time - meaning 3 AM Eastern, or 3 AM Pacific, etc - and you have indicated that you found this activity sometime after 3 AM, which makes sense.

Having found that Update section, simply look for a box, or radio button (circle) and de-select the automatic update, or change the time to a time you are awake during the day, or other convenient time.

I don't think you have a problem, just a setting that is working ...

Cheers!

Computer turns on by itself

Some computers have an option in the BIOS or System Setup Menu to turn the laptop on at a particular time. It's a good feature for people who turn their laptops off at night because the first thing a computer does when you turn it on is to load all the startup software, then begin downloading and installing any updates it might have missed while it was turn off or start running a virus update or scan. That's why computer seem so slow when you first turn them on for about the first 10 to 20 minutes or so. So if I turn my computer off at night and I know my day gets started at 8:00am every morning, then I can set my computer to turn itself on every morning at 7:00am by itself. That way when I go to use it, it's good and fast.

If you have installed windows right then the problem isn't in the hard drive ( how ever you could try replacing it with another one just to see what happens) How ever it sounds like making your computer is on the toast with the mother board.

There is not a bios partition, as the bios is a firmware on the mother board. You need to press the key specified early during boot up, before the system seeks the hd for load.

N o Power

Try disconnecting your battery for about 10 seconds then reconnect the battery. Then plug the power adapter back into the computer if still no success hold pressure on the power adapter where you connect it to your computer. First hold it left then right then up then down while doing these tasks keep your eye on the ac light on your laptop and see if it ever comes on if it does it sounds like *********** board power connector has a short and needs to be changed if this is the case it is not to expensive a tech may charge you 80 to 100 to fix. If not its most likely internal and will probably result in a mother board change which can result in 100's of dollars

probably ur ram is faulty..replace with a standby n see..
also check for defective capacitors on the main/mother board..
reinstall os..

dis also do happen when ur cd/dvd rom drive is down or the cd frm where u r installing is corrupted..

the above often take place with some error message(s)/blue screen..
but if there's no such displaying, esp if hangs/stops/power off during installation, it may b caused by the main/mother board or even the battery..
..contact ur system admin/vendor....

The first thing when spilling drink on your electronics is to remove ALL power.

Then wash the circuits with DISTILLED, de-ioniozed water till all traces of the spillage is gone. Next driop dry with one corner down and finally let dry a few days.

The only damage the spillage usually can do is electrolysis from the power source. Circuit boards are washed with water during manufacturing. Use DE_IONIZED !!!

My laptop turns on, but there's nothing on the screen. It's black.

It will either be your motherboard or LCD. The first thing you want to do it hookup an external monitor to your laptop and then power it on. If you get normal video on your external monitor then it is an issue with your LCD that can either be the cable that connects the LCD to the mother board or the LCD itself.

If you get no video at all on the laptop or the 2nd monitor then it is a problem with your motherboard and you will need to have that replaced. Be sure to test for video on the 2nd monitor with the laptop closed and then opened. Also, make sure you press the function keys on the keyboard to switch displays. It would be no fun to think the mother board was bad when it was really the LCD and you just forgot to enable the external port :)

Good luck!

Acer aspire 3500 wont hold charge or turn on

I had to buy an new ac/dc plug piece off of ebay (cost only like $3 bucks) to sodder onto the mother board of my Acer. Somehow the little plastic/metal piece you plug into your computer comes off the mother board really easy. Acer wanted me to purchase a whole new mother board (at frigging $350), which, frankly wasn't an option. So I bought the little plug gizmo, soddered it on, and I'm doing good now.
