Question about Brother MFC 8820D All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

I'm getting a PAPER JAM error when the MFC 8820D is turned on. I've gone thru all the steps but there is NO paper in the unit. I've tried replacing the toner cartridge too, all to no avail. Any ideas?

Hi Erika:

A burning smell presents when paper is stuck on the fuser (The hot thing that heats the toner to the paper.) I would take out the drum, and peek in the printer with a flash light and see if you see any paper stuck anywhere it does not belong. Usually, the paper will be burnt "Brownish" in color.

With the drum, there are contacts on them. Make sure they are clean; and do not have toner residue on them. Easy to clean with a pencil eraser. Gently, rub the eraser over the metal contacts to clean off residue. Hope that helps you. If so, please leave me positive feed back.

Hello FixYa, I have a problem with my Brother MFC-240C. Everytime I try to print something I get a paper jam error message. I have tried opening the back cover and removing the paper but it still does...

This is not a fix, but a troubleshooting step. After you perform this step, please respond and let me know the outcome.

Take a small stack of paper (less than 50 sheets) and place flat in a refrigerator overnight. After the paper has been in there for at least 8 hours, pull it out and fan it (to remove static cling between the sheets). Place in the printer and see if the paper will feed correctly.

If it does, then your problem is high humidity which is a common cause for paper sticking together and causing paper jams. If it doesn't, then you've probably got a torn piece of paper somewhere in the paper path that is causing a jam. Either way, let me know your results so I can help you troubleshoot your issue.

Small piece of paper jammed in my brother 240C. Can't see if but I know it is there. how do I get it out?

  1. Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clearsome or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing onthe front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If yourprinter shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual tosee if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred.
  2. Step 2 Turn off the printer.
  3. Step 3 Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  4. Step 4 Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. Step 5 If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it.
  6. Step 6 266_a1.jpg Ifyou find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with bothhands and pulling firmly (see A). The goal is to keep the paper fromtearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out themiddle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. Step 7 266_a2.jpg If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper (see B). Don't force anything, though.
  8. Step 8 Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. Step 9 If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.

You need a new hinge so the cover will sit down properly, or paper will jam anyway, but it sounds like there is still a scrap of paper on one of the sensors inside the ADF, you need to look with a flashlight down thru where the paper goes and also look up thru the slot with the ADF lifted.

Hi I had a paper jam in my MFC 8820d - I removed the cover and removed the paper but I still get a Paper Jam error msg. I powered down the machine and turned back on - still same error msg. I have removed...

This can sometimes be related to paper dust interfering with a sensor. A burst of canned air can fix the problem. Just pull out the toner, open all of the covers and spray air into all the little crevices. You might want to do this outside, in case toner is loose in ther, so as not to make a mess.

Paper jam that i can not get out

By opening the front cover the toner/drum unit should be exposed. You can take it out simply by taking a grip on the black/grey area in the middle and lifting it up- and outwards. It is clicked into the machine, so it doesn't just slide out, it could require some effort.

Paper jam

Step1
Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred.
Step
2
Turn off the printer.
Step
3
Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
Step
4
Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
Step
5
If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it.
Step
6
If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly (see A). The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
Step
7
If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper (see B). Don't force anything, though.
Step
8
Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
Step
9
If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.

Printer says paper jam, but there is no paper in the printer. (mfc 210c)

If the paper tore when removing it, chances are there could be a small piece of paper still causing the paper jam. Sometimes all you need to do is turn the fax off for a few minutes and then turn it on again and the paper jam message is gone
