Do you have any DVD burning/reading software installed or was any removed? If not, are you trying to play a DVD through Windows Media Player?

Is the dvd player turned on in bios and in your hardware manager in windows. Hardware manager is in the control panel.
Start>control panel>system>hardware>device manager.
If it is on in bios but not windows it should have a little yellow sign next to it. Getting into bios depends on your board and what kind of bios is installed on the motherboard.

DVD player has sound but no picture

Here are solutions:
  • Buy a drive cleaning CD/DVD, those from dollar store may also work, clean the drive a few times and it should read CD/DVD.
  • Alternatively look at the Toshiba support drivers for firmware update to your specific drive. Make sure you do get all the recommended and critical Toshiba updates. Check it here: http://support.toshiba.com/support/home

Dvd code 10

Check the cord connection between the dvd player and the computer. Re boot the computer and then plug the dvd player in. Be sure the dvd player is connected to the power source.
You should "see" it on the computer as an icon if you are displaying the desk top

If not, click on the desk top Windows icon, and then click on Computer when the pop up comes on.
You should see the display of your computer and hard drives
The dvd player icon should show up under "devices with removable storage" there.
Re check the dvd is actually on.
Click on Control Panel and then "Hardware and devices" You will see your printer etc.
If the dvd player doesnt show up, try and open the dvd player to load in a disc. If the tray doesnt open, the player is defective
If it does, then the fault is in the computer "Device Manager"
Go to the computer Device Manager and you will see the device name with a red x against it.

The two possible faults are
1. The driver is missing or damaged
2. The device is defective

If you have the skilset, delete the dvd driver and install it again from the manufacturers (Toshiba?) web site
If you dont, find a geeky friend!

My Acer Aspire 5315 does not play DVD films.

Hi,
to play dvd films, ensure your laptop has a media-player installed. i.e windows media player 9-10-11 et,c. also you could check in My computer/control Panel/system/device manager to see if there any yellow exclamation marks, next to any devices. if there are. you,ll need to re-install drivers for the device.

if this solves your problem, please rate as fixya.

thankyou for using the forum.

DVD movies have region codes, and they typically only play on a player or DVD-ROM drive sold in the country where the DVD movie was sold.

The actual region code is in one byte on the DVD (digital versatile disc). The DVD player or drive has a region code in its firmware. Personal computer DVD-ROM players often have the code in the software or MPEG-2 decoder. The two codes must match for the player or drive to play the movie. The code is also printed on the back of a DVD package, superimposed on a small image of the globe.

DVD regional locking is used to control which DVD movies play in which countries or groups of countries. Movies are often released on different dates around the world. Region 1 has its own player that will only play Region 1 discs. Likewise, Region 2 players can only play Region 2 discs and not play any of Region 1's discs. The six codes are:
  1. United States and Canada
  2. Europe and Japan
  3. Southeast Asia
  4. Latin America and Australia
  5. Russia, rest of Asia and Africa
  6. China
please check the DVD region code again and what PLAYER u are using to play on PC / LAPTOP??

where did you buy the DVD player??
