Be wary of buying a screen/digitizer on eBay. I spent $70 for one, waited weeks for it to arrive from China, only to find that it had completely different connectors on it from my Nuvi 3490. Outwardly they look the same, but the display and digitizer connectors are of a completely different type and are completely reversed (display/digitizer swapped side for side). The new screen (which looks FAR from new, btw) is completely useless to me and now I have to enter into the laborious and likely unsuccessful process of opening a complaint through eBay for a potential refund.
Assuming the screen digitizer isn't damaged (it happens), and the nuvi originally worked correctly, you might be looking at a mechanical problem. Carefully check the border (where the screen goes under the Nuvi plastic shell) and ensure there's no dust or grit pressing against the screen surface. Such pressure may send the digitizer out of alignment and even foil the digitizer calibration procedure.
turn it on, make sure the battery has a good charge on it, then locate the reset hole on the left side near the bottom and use a paper clip to depress the switch...youll know its reset if the unit goes off and reboots....if that fail, it needs a digitizer (the part that lets you navigate your magellan) its the upper layer over the touch screen.
i buy broken magellans off ebay if i need a digitizer or screen..normally for under 20.00
on the 255w there are 2 hidden torx screws under the serial # sticker on the bottom..use a hair drier and twizzers to pull it back on each end of the sticker so you dont ruin it. remove the screws and carefully split the case(i use my finger nail)
