You need to activate the Nuvi on a PC machine. To transfer files, open iTunes audiobook window, then drag your books of choice from that window to the Nuvi icon on the desktop

An alternate way would be to load your music library to a memory card, then plug the card into the mem slot on the Garmin, I have done this on my Garmin, seems the best way in my opinion,

Garmin GPS units that accept music files will only recognize music in an MP3 format. If your music has been purchased from iTunes, Windows Media Player, or any other internet music service, it will not recognize those files.

you will need to convert any file you wish to move to the garmin to a mp3 format, you can't move the whole library.

if you find mp3 files from your library you can move those files into the garmin and they should play right away, other files will require to be converted. you will most likely have to buy a software todo that.

If you wish, iTunes may be used to create MP3 files from CD's that you own. The files must be MP3 format.

Tell me that you want to transfer some music to your GPS.

You can transfer MP3 music files to the Garmin GPS system and play them in your car. Here’s how:
    1. Attach the device to your computer using the included cable.

    2. You will have 1 or 2 drives mounted to your computer. One should be nuvi, the other nuvi sd (will only appear if you have an SD Card inserted into the Garmin).

    3. Drag and drop your MP3 music files anywhere on either of these drives. Ideally you may want to create a folder called Music and place them all in there, but it really doesn’t matter.

    4. Once you have them copied, eject the device and detach it from the computer.

Now you can play your music on the device by tapping Travel Kit > MP3 Player.

Note: The device will only play MP3 files. It does not play iTunes M4P files or any other format.

How do I load itunes songs to Garmin Nuvi 755T?

Songs in iTunes are in the AAC format. The Garmin only recognizes MP3s. You would have to convert the files before you could transfer them.

Downloading songs from an i-mac computer to a garmin zumo 660

I don't know for sure, but most likely the problem is that iTunes keeps songs in AAC format, and the Garmin wants them in MP3 format.

If that's the case, then what you need to do is this:

in iTunes, build a playlist of the songs you want to export.
Click on that playlist to show the list of songs
Click on the first song in the list, then hold SHIFT and click on the last song in the list so they're all highlighted.
Select the menu option "Make and MP3 copy". Apple keeps moving this option, so you may have to hunt for it, depending on the version of iTunes you have.

This should leave the nice-quality AAC versions alone, but also make MP3 copies of each song.
Copy the MP3 files to the SD card and try that in your Garmin.

Have you tried a complete reset? If not this is what you do. Turn on the Garmin at the same time press the bottom right hand corner of the screen. this will return it to factory standard, but it will wipe out any information you may have stored on it.

Will my itunes music library play on my Garmin nuvi 760? I dragged and downloaded my itunes music library onto my nuvi 760. When I hooked it up this morning to use it in my car it kept saying it was...

Your Garmin only supports MP3 files and iTunes is all MP4. The Best way to convert them is with "Real Player sp" Which is probably on your computer already or downlaod it for free. Open the music library and right click on the centre. There you will see "Converter" Select convert to MP3. Don't open iTunes. Instead go through; Start, my music, iTunes, library. This way you can drag a whole album into the converter. Plug your Garmin in with the USB cable and go through; Start, my computer, storage device H. At the bottom of the converter you can select where to send the converted files. Select the device H. Now press start and let it do it's thing. When it's finished you can see the old files in MP4 format with the new files in MP3 format listed under. Drag and drop is only a copy. You can delete all these files after to keep it tidy. All the original stuff is still safe and you Garmin should now have music on it. Try it with a small tune first to test. Best of luck. Regards Chris4fingers

How to activate my nuvi 660 using my mac and itunes or audible.com

I had the same problem and was able to resolve it using the procedure (listed below) from Audible technical support.  It's wordy, but the long and short of it is that you need to activate the Nuvi on a PC machine, then you can use it on the Mac.  To transfer files, open iTunes audiobook window, then drag your books of choice from that window to the Nuvi icon on the desktop.  I had no problems using this procedure.

Thank you for contacting Audible.com. On its behalf, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience and I am most committed to satisfying and resolving your inquiry to the fullest of my abilities.

As per your email I understand that you wish to use your Garmin GPS with Audible on your Mac.

Unfortunately, the Garmin is not supported on a Mac with Audible audiobooks unless it is first activated on a Windows PC. If you have access to a Windows PC please follow the requested steps below to activate it on a PC first. Once successfully activated you will be able to use your Mac to transfer your audiobooks onto it.

If you have access to a Windows PC to activate your Garmin GPS through the Audible Manager software please do the following to get started.

Make sure Audible Manager is installed in your PC, otherwise please go to: Audible Software page ( www.audible.com/software ) and download the version for Download for Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. Select Run or Save. During this installation process, a message: "If you already own an Audible Ready mobile device, please select it from the choices below", will prompt, please select Garmin GPS Devices from the list.

If Audible Manager is already installed on your PC: Launch Audible Manager, click on Devices > Add new device. You will be asked to connect to the Internet. Click Yes to connect. From the list of devices, select the Garmin GPS Devices, and click ok.

Once installed successfully now please follow the requested steps to activate your Garmin Nuvi using the Audible Manager software.

Ensure that the device is connected to the PC and Internal Memory is selected to activate the Main Memory of your GPS. Please note you may transfer your audiobooks onto the SD card as well if you have one.

Right-click the Garmin plugin in the bottom left corner of Audible Manager ( below Mobile Devices ) and choose activate.

After entering your username and password, click ok.

Once your Garmin has been successfully activated using a Windows PC you may now use your Mac to transfer your Audible audiobooks to your Gramin.

Before you can transfer your audiobooks on to your Garmin device please follow the requested steps below to download your audiobooks.

Please log into your Audible Account, Click on My Library on the top of the page next to Home, Once you are in your online library towards your right hand side, you will find a tab called "Download It". This will start your download action from our server to your computer.

This will download the selection onto your desktop and open iTunes. If the file downloads to your desktop, double click or drag the file into the iTunes library.

Connect your Garmin device to computer.

Drag the book from iTunes onto the Garmin device.
