Free AVG doesn't have a firewall that I know of. However, I did remove McAfee which was stagnant just for that reason. Turned off Windows Firewall too.

I reset TCP, Winsocks, reinstalled AVG, bypassed the router, I get the feeling that malware may be responsible...? Some of my services, such as Windows Installer were disabled. I found a couple posts regarding this and started the service for updating AVG.. to no avail.

    I am frustrated.

Try to turn off your antivirus software's firewall, then try to go online using Internet explorer. If it works, it means your firewall needs to be configured. Pls post back.

Internet shuts it self off

Whereas Internet Explorer is a very popular browser, you may have problems with it from time to time. Internet Explorer has been known to either randomly shut down or close pages. This can be extremely irritating, especially if you are in the middle of a project. Use these tips to fix Internet Explorer if it keeps closing Web pages.

Start by deleting your browsing history. Open Internet Explorer and click the "Safety" tab found in the top right corner of the Web browser. Then, choose the "Delete Browsing History" option. A box will appear on the computer screen. Make sure that there are checkmarks next to each option listed in the box. Click the "Delete" tab to delete the browsing history. Move to the next step if Internet Explorer keeps closing pages. Download, install and then run both an anti-malware and an anti-virus software program. http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=4281&file=1&evp=dbb3b0aebe6a6a4ff18089a6489a5e62 anti malware free edition Win XP/2003/Vista/Windows7 http://www.majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Security_Essentials_for_Windows_d6242.html microsoft security essentials your operating system must be registered Spyware, adware, viruses and other similar infections can cause Internet Explorer to shut down or close pages. Can not download yahoo toolbar "Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer's Add-on Management feature lets you view, enable and disable the list of add-ons which can be loaded by Internet Explorer. Add-ons include browser helper objects, ActiveX controls, toolbar extensions and browser extensions.
To view or modify the add-ons on your computer by launching Manage Add-ons:
1. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, click Manage Add-ons, and then click Enable or Disable Add-ons. 2. To disable an add-on, select it in the list in the Manage Add-ons dialog box and select the Disable radio button. 3. To enable an add-on, select it in the list in the Manage Add-ons dialog box and select the Enable radio button. 4. Click OK to confirm. Note: Disabling an add-on does not remove it from your computer. It simply prevents Internet Explorer from executing the add-on's code-it does not prevent other software from executing the add-on. If an add-on is disabled, website pages that rely on that add-on may not work as expected. For more information on Add-ons, click the "Learn more about add-ons" help link in the Manage Add-ons dialog box.

Update of avg softwears

Older versions of AVG won't update anymore. What you should do is uninstall your old version and download the latest version.

The firefox issue may be solved by uninstalling firefox. You could also try to download a newer version of firefox and install it.

You may set Internet Explorer as your default browser by starting it and choosing 'internet options' from the 'extra' menu. At the 'programs' tab there should be a possibility to set Internet Explorer as standard browser.

Yahoo Browser connects to internet, but Explorer&AVG update wont

Yahoo Connects but IE and AVG wont
1. Try opening AVG and adjusting the connection settings.
2. Go to Start/ Network connections/ Local area connection/ General tab/ Scroll down to TCP/IP/ highlight it and click properties. Make sure "obtain IP address automatically" is checked. Under the advanced setting there, DHCP should be enabled.
3. Verify setting in Internet Explorer under: Tools/Options/ Connections/ Lan Settings/ select "automatically detect settings"

You might also check your AVG program for a firewall conflict or block there.
