Question about Sony STR-DE595 5-Channel Amplifier

1 Answer

I have a Sony STR-DE595, I am trying to hook it up with my PEAVEY CS800S amp. My father in law had it hooked up with his receiver, but used the headphone jack in the front for the 1/4" plug. My receiver cuts ALL sound when I run it through the headphone jack. I tried a 1/4" to RCA patch cable to connect the amp to the receiver's sub output, but got zero result from that also. (yes i made sure the receiver had the SW option turned on). Please help, this is extremely frustrating!!

I can't get sound out of my amplifier and I haven't changed anything. What could be the problem?

Start by choosing FM on a known frequency with a station broadcasting and volume is turned down to a NORMAL listening level. Next, make sure speaker selector isn't the wrong position (make sure "SPEAKERS OFF/A/B/A+B is set to A [or B to match the speaker terminal connections]), check to be sure "Mute" function is not activated by pressing the MUTE button on the remote to toggle it between on & off, Make sure headphones are disconnected. Make sure "PROTECT" is not displayed on the front as this indicates a shorted speaker wire - shut off and repair the shorted wire(s).

If you get sound on FM, but have an issue with another external component (CD, DVD, Phono, etc.) check the cables between the component and the input panel on the rear of the STR-DE595.

I hope this helps & good luck!

The SONY STR DE595 goes into "protect" mode upon turning it on.I recut all speaker wires & vacuumed the receiver ...unplugged,differenet outlets...etc.Any advice?

The protect thing is to do with an overload. It's more than likely that something in the main amp section has failed (perhaps a transistor on the big heat sink). The cause often speaker wiring touching together. You should look carefully at the this section for damage or burning. If you have a ohm meter you can test the transistors. If you place the probes on the terminals of each transistor and you get a responce like you had touch the probes together, you have located the source of the overload.

Can I plug an Ipod directly in to this amp?

You can plug the I-Pod into the amp by using one of these cables. It fits into the headphone socket of the I-Pod and the two RCA's go into an aux imput (perhaps the front one?).

PEAVEY CS 800S WHERE IS THE FUSE LOCATED? WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

There are many variants of this amp depending upon its age. The fuse will be a ceramic one that should be solid white and be around 10A or more. This will be about 1-1/4" long and located inside the amp. Remove the top cover for access. It will be in a fuse holder. Please make sure that the unit is unplugged before opening.
