I don't know for sure, but most likely the problem is that iTunes keeps songs in AAC format, and the Garmin wants them in MP3 format.
If that's the case, then what you need to do is this:
in iTunes, build a playlist of the songs you want to export. Click on that playlist to show the list of songs Click on the first song in the list, then hold SHIFT and click on the last song in the list so they're all highlighted. Select the menu option "Make and MP3 copy". Apple keeps moving this option, so you may have to hunt for it, depending on the version of iTunes you have.
This should leave the nice-quality AAC versions alone, but also make MP3 copies of each song. Copy the MP3 files to the SD card and try that in your Garmin.
Have you tried a complete reset? If not this is what you do. Turn on the Garmin at the same time press the bottom right hand corner of the screen. this will return it to factory standard, but it will wipe out any information you may have stored on it.
Your Garmin only supports MP3 files and iTunes is all MP4. The Best way to convert them is with "Real Player sp" Which is probably on your computer already or downlaod it for free. Open the music library and right click on the centre. There you will see "Converter" Select convert to MP3. Don't open iTunes. Instead go through; Start, my music, iTunes, library. This way you can drag a whole album into the converter. Plug your Garmin in with the USB cable and go through; Start, my computer, storage device H. At the bottom of the converter you can select where to send the converted files. Select the device H. Now press start and let it do it's thing. When it's finished you can see the old files in MP4 format with the new files in MP3 format listed under. Drag and drop is only a copy. You can delete all these files after to keep it tidy. All the original stuff is still safe and you Garmin should now have music on it. Try it with a small tune first to test. Best of luck. Regards Chris4fingers
I had the same problem and was able to resolve it using the procedure (listed below) from Audible technical support. It's wordy, but the long and short of it is that you need to activate the Nuvi on a PC machine, then you can use it on the Mac. To transfer files, open iTunes audiobook window, then drag your books of choice from that window to the Nuvi icon on the desktop. I had no problems using this procedure.
