Its ok to turn it on its side but it MUST sit upright 24-48 hours before pluging it in.

Defrost ge regrigerator

The most common problem with the defrost system is a burned out defrost heater. It is located behind the frz back wall usually attached at the bottom of the aluminum cooling coils which will probably be full of ice and frost buildup. You will need to melt all the ice off the coils with something like a hair dryer. The heater is inside a glass tube and can be tested with a multimeter or sometimes you can see the break in it through the glass. In some cases there are 2 or 3 heaters at different levels. Replacement kits should include as many as needed for your model. Replace them all. 2 other parts to the defrost system are the defrost timer (usually located on the front channel under the freezer door) or the termination thermostat which is a silver disk clipped to the top of the aluminum cooling coils with 2 wires going to it. Any of those 3 parts could cause the frost buildup but the heater is the most common.

GE GSCS3KGYSS REGRIGERATOR DEFROSTING

If there is no cooling at all on the fridge section but the freezer works then it is confirmed that the compressor and gas pressure is OK. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if ice forms in the freezer then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

REGRIGERATOR SIDE IS NOT WORKING - FREEZER IS JUST COOL. GREEN NUMBER 4 IS BLINKING WHERE TEMPERATURE FOR FRIDGE IS SUPPOSED TO SHOW

Sounds like your defrost timer may have gone bad. Feel your walls and if they
are hard with no give then the fridge is froze up solid not allowing any air to
circulate. Try this: Unplug for 24-48 hours. Place towels on floor to **** up
water. Plug back in. If the fridge gets cold then the defrost timer is bad.
Unfortunately this is not a cheap fix and consideration may have to be given on
replacing your unit.
Good luck and thanks for your question and I hope my suggestions help. burdfrenzy

My regrigerator (GE Profile) is not cold on the fridge side, but ok on the freezer side. I found ice buildup in the freezer so I defrosted and dryed it completely, cleaned it- including coils...

Regrigerator

It could be the fan...check the outlet in the fridge with the door button pushed in...light off. If it is, it could be a bad fan or freezeup (most likely). Defrost the unit completely. This is a two day, open doors deal unless you take the rear of the freezer section off and use a hair dryer (water and electricity together are dangerous!). You probably have ice in the coils impeding airflow. Pretty soon, your freezer is going to get warmer, too. Reasons: humidity is getting in there...door gaskets, liquids left to evaporate, windowshopping.
