CAUSE This issue may occur for one of the following reasons: The audio-visual (AV) cab... loadTOCNode(1, 'cause'); This issue may occur for one of the following reasons:

  • The audio-visual (AV) cable is not connected correctly or is not plugged in to your Xbox 360 console.
  • The console is not detecting the cable.
This issue does not occur if the AV cable is plugged incorrectly in to a television, stereo, or VCR.

Note This issue occurs only on Xbox 360 consoles that do not have a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) AV port

Here are some things that you can try to fix the issue or to determine what the cause is. If you cannot fix the problem yourself, please contact Xbox Customer Support. Visit http://www.xbox.com/support/contact http://www.xbox.com/support/contact) for information about how to do this.

Make sure that the AV cable is connected correctly to your Xbox 360 console. To do this, disconnect the AV cable from your Xbox 360 console, and then firmly reconnect the AV cable to your Xbox 360 console.

Note When you plug the AV cable in to your Xbox 360 console, the cable meets slight resistance before it is fully inserted. If you do not fully insert the cable, all four lights will flash on the Ring of Light, or no video may be displayed on the screen. You know that the cable is fully inserted when the largest part of the connector is almost touching the case of the console.

For more information about how to connect the AV cable to your Xbox 360 console, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Check to make sure that the AV cable is clean

    loadTOCNode(2, 'whattotry');

If four red lights continue to flash, unplug the AV cable from the back of your console. Then, try wiping the metal area of the AV cable that plugs into the console. Do this by using a dry, soft, clean, chemical-free cloth. The metal area of the cable is the end that plugs into the console. Clean and wipe the metal area thoroughly, and then plug in the AV cable again.
    Try another AV cable

    loadTOCNode(2, 'whattotry');

If the AV cable is connected correctly but the four red lights are still flashing, try using a different AV cable if you have one available.

Four rings of death means there something wrong with the av cable.
three rings means there is something wrong with the cpu and gpu.
two rings of death mean the console has been overheated and must be switched off and left to cool.
one ring means there is a major hardware failure.

also each xbox 360 comes with it's own av cable. Each av cable has it's own encoder chip that only works for the xbox you got it with.

Rings of death is a easy fix.
it involves removeing the heatsinks replacing the heatsink compound and rebolting the down.
there are some other fourms with the full instructions for this.
it works 100%

You need to contact xbox 360 customer support, and they'll send you information on how to send it back to them (If you have a warranty) They'll fix it, and send it back for free.

After pressing the on button it turns green for 5 seconds then it flashes yellow/orange for a second then it flashes red.

Yellow Light of DeathThe "Yellow Light of Death" or YLOD is the common phrase people use to describe the following sequence when they try to turn on their PS3:

  • Press Power Button
  • Red Light Flashes Three Times
  • Yellow Light Flashes
  • Green Light Flashes
  • Beeps Three Times
  • Red Light Flashes

The sequence above may vary a bit but you do see the flashing yellow light (sometimes shows up as orange) that normally you would not see when operating your PS3. The YLOD is a general hardware fault that can mean a lot of things. However, one of the problems is cracked solder that leads the PS3 to think one of its internal chips is not connected or is broken somehow. Cracked solder can happen when the chips get too hot (RSX most likely) and leads the motherboard to start bending, which may crack the solder. Changing the power supply (lower the average wattage going to the chips to lower the heat) and better thermal compound (heat dissipates faster to the heatsink) may prevent this error from occurring. However, if your PS3 has already had the YLOD, then you can reflow your motherboard every few months to keep it working (but it is not a permanent fix as the YLOD usually comes back).

My playstation has the light trun green yellow flashing red light

With your PS3 turned off, press and hold the Power button on the front of the PS3 for about 10 seconds (the system will beep as normal as it starts up but after 7-10 seconds it will beep again). The video settings should now be reverted. Doing this will also reset any theme settings. try this? seems to fix alot of issues.

Red flashing lights, will not completely start up

Do you have a windows XP cd?
If so you can try booting from the cd and running recovery console.
from recovery console type chkdsk -r
This should repair any bad sectors on your drive, allowing the drive to boot
(this scan may take some time)
