Question about Sony VPL-ES1 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

I have a projector (SONY VPL-ES1) and the bulb stopped working. Took the bulb out, and not sure if it's blown or not. I checked online, to see if anyone else had similar problems, and sure enough they did. I read one that said it wouldn't just stop working, it'll dim out eventually, not just in a matter of seconds. And plus when you fire the projector up, it just shuts down, it doesn't stay on with the fan running, etc. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Usually the projector powers and cools down. if you restart it it will open the cover, not projecting anything and after 10 seconds it will close again. this happens if the lamp is shortly before the end of the measured lifetime (no fixed hours) to protect the projector. usually if you take it out once or twice it will work for 1 or 2 more times but the bulb is very likely to explode (not destroying the projector but not good anyways)

ensure that the projector goes through the cool down cycle, for example the fans stop running, before you unplug it. Unplugging it will cause it to into power failure mode which will not allow the lamp to turn on until the bulb reaches ambient temperature. it will also extend the life of that very expensive bulb. take the extra time to let it shut down before you unplug it.

Hi Max

Is there any power on the unit at all ?

i.e. Does the LED's on the unit indicate that it is in stanby ?

If it isn't then it could just be a fuse that has gone on your Powersupply.

A warning in the manual was given as to be carefull when using this projector with games as some parts of the screen will not move, just like if you watch Tv on it and there is a channel logo in one corner that doesn't move! It burns the display like it would on a pc monitor if no screen saver set. This is not a problem you can fix, that is perminant damage to the lcd in the projector!! S Platt
