clock stopped on my dell inspiron 1525

  • Anonymous Mar 28, 2009

Whenever I turn the computer on i says "Time of Day clock stopped" and then I can't do anything further. I tried entering Bios by using the F2 or F10, 12 keys while the main "Dell" screen was loading and everytime it says "Entering Set up" but it doesn't do that. It just gives the clock message.

I have a dell inspiron 1525 and I bought it in May 2008. In March 2009 I started having problems with my clock. I would go under update time and date and sync with the internet time. This would only help temporarily. The time will even go backwards. One day the battery ran completely out and when I plugged it in it stayed at a black screen and said stop clock error. Since I bought it at Best Buy I have to take it to the geek squad for anything related to the warranty. They shipped it back to Dell to have the motherboard replaced. The day I got it back I turned it on and it was at the same place I left off at when my battery ran out. I was told that it would be wiped clean and paid to have it backed up, so I was surprised to see everything the same. I also found out the same day that it was NOT fixed. I have to take it back again and see what happens....

You are experiecing with your CMOS battery so:

try taking the CMOS battery out
leaving for 30 seconds
make sure it's all unplugged from the wall
do that first
then press the power button after the 30 seconds
to drain all power
then put battery back in
and plug in and turn on

and if still problem remains then you need to change your CMOS battery.

Thanks and do not forget to rate answers.

I am having same problem. I replaced the CMOS battery. Replaced with brand new battery Energizer lithium Ion CR2032. Took me 2 hours to do the whole thing, because I didn't break any tabs or anything. I can get a job at dell for position "battery replacement technician". I made sure timer service is running and time is synced in time settings. Afer a month, same problem.

SOURCE: times of day clock stopped

i wouls recommend getting the latest bios from dell for this laptop: copy and paste this info to the address bar in your browser->

If that does not work look to see if the service tag is still under warranty with dell and have them replace the motherboard for free. If you are out of warranty, and the bios update did not work- then the cmos battery is bad on the motherboard, or there is something really wrong with the internal clock on the motherboard. There is a program out there called atom time which automatically checks the time daily and updates it for you.I think it's still available as freeware too. This might be the only way to fix this if you are out of warranty and nothing else works- good luck!

SOURCE: time of day clock stopped - DELL Inspiron 1525

This is one of the known issues with the Inspiron 1525 computer. The problem is caused by faulty cmos battery. If you computer is in warranty kinldy call Dell to get the same replaced . if the system is out of warranty. You would need to replace the CMOS battery ie below the keyboard.
You can follow the instructions below

SOURCE: Time-of-day clock stopped on my Inspiron 1525,

you will have to replace the CMOS battery and it is not a customer replaceable part you will need a ted=ch to do it as there are no tear down diagrams to illustrate the procedure.

I wonder if the motherboard has bluetooth integrated or I have to put an external bluetooth devise

One way to find out:
Click on the start button > right click on 'computer' > choose properties > (top left) device manager > you will see a list of drivers
Bluetooth should be near the top
IF you don't see Bluetooth, you will need to purchase an external Bluetooth receiver.

Bluetooth & sound

Generally, connecting phones via bluetooth to a laptop just allows for file transfer between the two devices. It is not to input sound from the phone through the speakers of the laptop. You would need a bluetooth audio device for that such as bluetooth speakers or headphones

How do i reset my computer to an earlier date?

Most computers have a RTC or "real time clock" in the BIOS. BIOS (or "Basic Input Output System") controls how data gets into and out from the processor (via keyboard, disk, etc.). Be careful making changes. The BIOS is normally only accessable when the computer is powered on or reset, and then only while performing the POST (or "Power On Self Test"). At this time your screen may display text describing memory, drives, controllers, etc. Some machine have a "silent boot" enabled which displays a manufacturer's graphic or logo instead of this data. It is during this time the the BIOS may be accessed. Depending on the manufacturer of your computer, a key (Delete, Escape, F1 or some other) or key combination (ALT + F1, ALT + S, or some other) will be needed. It is required to press the key or key combination prior to the Operating System loading message(s). This can be done be repeatedly pressing the key (or key combination) once every second (or two) during the POST. Holding the key(s) down the entire time - or pressing them too often will result in an error, and require starting over again.

Once the BIOS screen is presented, you will have to scroll the entire page(s) to find the clock. Most BIOS brands have more than just a single page of settings. Using the the up, down, left, right, PgUp, PgDn & Enter keys - navigate to the clock hours and minutes and adjust as needed. Make sure that you SAVE changes before exiting the BIOS screen. Upon exit, the computer will reboot with your settings.

Your Operating System may also provide a way for you to change the system time (and date) as well. Try clicking on the time / date to see if it will bring up a dialog box that allows you to make the change.

I hope this helps and good luck! If my answer was helpful, please rate it "4 thumbs up" Thanks!
