Leighkavo, it would be easier and less of a hassle to purchase a new monitor than trying to replace the power button. You can do so, by going onto Ebay and seeing if there are parts for your particular model. Then you'll have to break open the casing on the monitor and replace the circuit board where the power button is housed.

What type of Monitor do you have? Here is a Dell example of replacing a Monitor Power Button. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXAQxwCTuuI

The monitor brightness control menu remains on the desktop, on top of any other window and won't switch off.

Sounds like your button may be broken internally.

Try unplugging the power from the monitor and plugging the power back and turning the monitor on.

Does the menu pop up on its own?

If it does then your button is broken internally.

The power button got stuck and the monitor won't come back on without trying to pry it out with something. Sometimes it works. Right now it seems to be permanently broken. Help!

It may have broken actuator or the arm for the button is now broken, it is very poor design, I cannot locate anyone that sell this assembly yet. You may be out of luck, what I have done is to remove the button and use paper clip to actuate the switch.

We have a Gateway FPD1730 monitor, P/NO 7004665. Manufactured in January 2004. Apparently the spring behind the power button has slipped or broken as the button has dropped back in the hole and cannot be...

THe push button (the button is used to push the switch shaft) is held in place with a plastic finger, it is broken off right now, that is why it dropped back in hole. This is how most of the front panel push buttons are made on most monitors, very cheaply made and design. If the finger is broken in the middle, some time I can fix it by using Silicone RTV to glue it down because the Silicone is flexible. You can try that out.

Dell 1704FPT just went dead, will not turn on not even yellow light on power button - just seems to have died. Is there a way to reset? or is it time for a new one?

First you need to troubleshoot a little. You should first try another power cable for the monitor, if that doesn't help, you might be able to open up the monitor case and check wether the button is broken. If the button is broken, you're going to have to improvise a new one, since new buttons aren't really being sold. If that isn't the case, or if you can't open up the monitor, take it to computer shop, these things are easier to fix if you can look at it. I hope this helps, Yannick.

Dimension E510 LCD Monitor with broken power switch

Hi,

Thanks for responding. Nothing happened when you pressed in the power button and the warranty had expired; Dell was no help so don't bother. I read that there were tab(s) on the plastic power button that had broken off and no longer engaged the power switch. I "solved" my monitor problem by drilling through the plastic case between the power button and the minus button, pulled out the plastic power button and pressed the switch with a flat screwdriver to turn on the monitor. Now I leave the power on all the time and put a piece of black masking tape over the space where the power button was. Not the best solution I'm sure, the hole isn't pretty, but it works. If anyone else wants to try this solution be careful when you drill through the plastic case because the switch you want to engage occupies the space between the buttons, exactly where you are drilling. If you drill through the switch you might as well throw the monitor into the recycle bin. I expected to find an actual button switch and was surprised to find a flat, 2 prong circuit switch instead. Good luck to all.
