Why does Water pump keep failing?

I recently changed the timing belt and pulleys on my car. Was advised to change the water pump while in there although didn't have any problems with it. I have had 3 waterpumps start dripping through the weep hole about 10 days from replacement almost to the day on each one. Car does not overheat and runs smooth except for the antifreeze dripping from the weep hole. All pulleys look smooth and visually spin true. Prior to changing the first water pump and timing belt, I did have, about two weeks prior,a radiator cap fail and all coolant evaporated out causing engine to overheat. Replaced cap and everything ran fine until I did the timing belt maintenance repairs. Is it possible that the thermostat is the problem and the waterpump is running dry? Im not overheating though. Could I have a blockage? I diluted my own anifreeze 50/50 and it is possible that bad antifreeze could cause the bearing to fail? I needs some ideas to try.

98 toyota Camry 4 cyl. I thought about that alignment issue and I cant see any way to adjust it. Everything appears to be aligned based on what I can see. I am doing the repairs myself by the way. I have started the engine after replacing the timing belt and also the other two water pumps and observed the timing belt that goes around the water pump pulley and it seems smooth and without any type of problems. The tensoner is spring loaded and once it is tight by the spring, it is necessary to tighten the bolt on the pulley to then keep it in place. The belt does not feel very tight so I dont think a tight belt is the problem. I am also doing a radiator flush and getting a new thermostat to make sure I have free flow of fluid to cool the seal. I wonder if I have some "dead" antifreeze that just spins and gets hot and burns the seal. When I take off the bad pumps, the shaft and bearings seem tight to the hand touch. Any other Ideas?

HI Clark
You didnt mention type of car and engine but I will try for to look at the alignment of the pulley on the waterpump and relation to the other pulleys it could be there is a stress factor put on these water pumps to fail as you say. One must find the cause,, would you have the orignal pump to match it up with the rebuilt ones? you may endup going to a dealer and borrow to match up with the ones they keep putting on from the same supplier.Make sure you have no vibration coming from all these pulleys they seem of replaced something is out of tune to blow those seals in a water pump they are doubled sealed.Or are you getting new ones?..... missing info no problem I wouldve love to tackle this problem when I was in the trade.;)

SOURCE: I have a 1995 Golf MKIII, my problem is overheating. Have replaced waterpump, thermostat, radiator, I've even replaced complete engine( and headgasket)! It seems like the coolant is not circulatin

Are you bleeding the air out of the cooling system, you must do that or it will get air pockets and overheat.

If I have my water pump pully replaced should i replace my water pump also...if i don't replace the water pump what could happen

Personally I should change the pump at the same time., What if the pump fails later, you will have to more money to replace pump than to have it changed at the time of pulley. It is you time and money so you will have to make the choice, no one but you can make that choice.

I have a1999 Chevrolet metro Lsi, and the water pump pulley and belt is rubbing against the timing belt cover

Water pump bearings must be worn out. Loosen the belt and check the pump to see if the shaft is loose.

My 2006 dts is over heating. Water pump belt snapped, and pulleys damaged, but water pump isnt locked up nor lose. Why the ever heat. I did recently change the front end.

If the water pump pulley turns easy with no noise and is smooth, then make sure you have the right belt and the routing diagram. Install the belt, the engine shouldn't overheat now. If it does, you may have a failed thermostat, they usually fail in the open position and then the engine may not get up to operating temperature. But it may have seized up especially if you don't use antifreeze.

Changing water pump 2000 ford focus

Changing a water pump is pretty basic. Since the coolant system is a closed system you only need to be concerned with that system. For instance you since you have to mess around with it anyway you might as well change the thermostat and flush the coolant system. Make sure your radiator hoses are in good shape and that's about it.
If you have basic mechanical skills and tools you will have no problem replacing a water pump.

As far as information with the actual replacement there are a number of experts here including myself that could explain how to do it.
However no matter how good our explanations are it just can't compare to a good repair manual.
A repair manual for your car at Auto Zone would likely cost between $12 and $15. It is a great investment if you are going to keep your car for any length of time. When you sell, it shows the buyer you took the time to maintain and repair it right.
I personally like Haynes Manuals.
I hope this helps.

How to change a water pump on a 1999 Buick Century 3100?

the water pump on the 3.1 isnt to hard to change ...
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Partially drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  3. Remove the drive belt guard.
  4. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts before removing the drive belt. This should help keep the pulley from turning as the bolts are loosened.
  5. Remove the drive belt. Remove the water pump pulley bolts and remove the pulley.
  6. Remove the water pump bolts and separate the pump from the engine front cover.
