I have a compaq notepad and everything says I have 256MB of memory installed in two slots. I have opened the bottom of the laptop and I find only a single slot with only a 128mb of ram installed. Does this notebook have memory somewhere else and how can I increase the ram on the notebook. Many regards David
you probably have 128 mb inegrated on the motherboard. So to increase the ram you can probably only put one stick in the computer. Good luck finding the memory if this computer is over two years old.
Nope RAM is always stored in the same place. Always together in slots. To see the accurate RAM go into Control Panel and click on System Icon. It will give you RAM information. As far as upgrading it, if you found it then you can easily upgrade it. But you have to make sure you get the exact same type. DDR SDRAM matches, DDR SDRAM, and DDR2 must be with DDR2. This will also be in the System Window. As far as the max RAM you can hold you will have to go to the HP website, type in your model number and it will tell you the max. So if you have one slot then get 1GB. Hope this helps. Please rate accordingly.
