Please try the following steps to check if there is any issue with TCP/IP protocol
TCP/IP protocol is resposible for getting IP address. You can determine if you have a TCP/IP problem by doing the following.

Put in the windows XP CD and navigate to the support >Tools folder. Double click setup and do a Complete install.
Click Start >run >cmd {enter}
Type netdiag /test:winsock /v {enter}
this will provide information if there is any problem in TCP/IP protocol due to winsock issue. If problem found then try the following steps
To Reset the Winsock Registry Entries

Click Start >Run >regedit {enter}
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock and delete it; just below that, see HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2 and delete it
Exit Regedit and reboot.
To Reinstall TCP/IP

To do this you need a copy of nettcpip.inf. There is one on the Windows XP CD and there may be one on your hard drive at C:\WINDOWS\inf\nettcpip.inf. Note: To see the inf folder, open My Computer and go to the menu item Tools > Folder Options... > View > and choose Show hidden files and folders.
Right click "My Network Places" select Properties.
Right click the connection(s) and select Properties.
Click Install >Protocol >add >have disk.
Browse to the location of nettcpip.inf .
Select nettcpip.inf then click Open then OK then Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then OK then Close
Reboot

Please reply back if further information required

I have a Belkin wireless router model F5D7633AU4A and I show a Excellent signal.....but it will not Acquire a network address

Do you mean your computer wil not acquire a network address from the router? If this is the case on your computer, click on start then click on run, in the run window type in cmd and press the enter key. You will now be in the windows doss prompt. Once in the doss prompt type in 'ipconfig /release' with quotes removed and press enter. After you do this type in 'ipconfig /renew' with quotes removed and press enter. After you do this restart the computer and see if it acquires the address. If this does not work try restarting the router. Keep me posted. If you found this solution helpful please rate it. Thanks - Tech101

Belkin 802.11g wireless card will not connect after service pack

Make sure the belkin has the latest drivers...
http://www.belkin.com/support/

After that you can make sure that your PC is fully updated, with any patches that have come out after SP3.

If neither of these work i would just go to SP2 untill belkin or microsoft finds a solution.

Dell dimension 3000 won't see wireless network

Hi, I've jst been looking on the web at the Mimo routers, you may find this article interesting, it may help even though its a couple of years old?

http://www.behardware.com/articles/614-2/wi-fi-mimo.html

Pay attention to part about 802.11n compatibility?
Perhaps try changing the IEEE standard on the router to 802.11g in the set up pages, as it may be set at 802.11n, which your older wireless card will not see.

As to the acquiring ip address message, try using a static ip address, here's a good guide:-

Maybe this will help?

Acquiring Address Problem

you will need to make sure that DHCP is enabled within the routers settings as this will tell the router to assign ip addresses automatically, then go to network connections, right click on your network card>properties>TCP/IP line>properties and tick 'obtain an ip address automatically', click ok, close window and restart pc.

Wirless network problem

the belkin router gets the wire from the dsl/modem in the seperate jack port in the back then punch into the address bar on a explorer window

192.168.1.2 and make sure you have it set to unsecure network, you can fiddle with the password system later on securing the network.

Card does not acquire ip address. repair does not work defaults to 169.254.244.38

What is the network adapter connected to - a modem or a router? Is there any other computer or device that is connected to that modem or router and is able to acquire an ip address? This would generally happen when the network adapter is not able to automatically negotiate with the connected device (which might have 10/100 ethernet ports). You can resolve this by forcing the network adapter speed to, for instance, 100 mbps. Please revert back with further observations.
