SOURCE: How do I get to

UNPLUG THE DRIER BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS!!!!

You need to lift the top up to get to the screws that hold the front on. To get the top up, are 2 spring-loaded clips that need to be pushed in to release. Slide a putty knife in the gap between the top and front, right in the middle. Slide to the left till you hit the clip (it's pretty obvious when you hit it). Now pull out the putty knife and press in on the clip, through the gap, from the front. It should release and allow you tpull the top up in that corner. Repeat the process on the right side.

Once both clips are released, the top should come up, pivoting in the back.

Now for the front:

There are two main types of fronts used on whirlpools (crosley is made by whirlpool).

If your front panel is all one piece, there will be 2 5/16" screws in the inside top corners, take these screws out and the front should pivot forward. Unhook any wires and pull the front off the two metal tabs that retain the bottom. The belt is on a springloaded tensioner near the motor. Release the tensioner and pull the drum and belt out together. Reverse to reinstall.

If your front panel has two pieces, you will need to remove the bottom (smaller) panel by releasing the two retaining clips. They will be located in the gap between the two front panels, you can locate them basically the same way you did for the top. Once released, pivot the panel out and lift it off the bottom retaining clips. Now you will have 4 screws to remove to get the main front panel off, as well as any wiring. Once you get the front panel off, take the belt off the tensioner and pull the drum/belt out. Reverse to install.

Also, while you're in there, vacuum out any dust you can, and if you're feeling ambitious your can also grease the rollers for the drum.

Hope this helped, lemme know if you need any clarification.

Why do i have a loud clanking noise when my dryer starts and ends cycle?

Good Afternoon Friend, thank you for your post!

I see that your question is listed under Crosley dryer. From what you have described it sounds like you either have a problem with the belt, front (and/or rear) bearing, or a loose connection with the motor or drum. I recommend contacting a professional to accurately diagnose the issue, the part(s) may have to be replaced depending if they are worn, damaged or loose. You can often locate a qualified tech through the manufacturer website. Best regards! - Z
