Question about Frigidaire GLTR1670A Front Load Washer
Repair man said it was due to not using HE laundry detergent yet my manual says nothing about this, Its a 2004 model. Has anyone else had a problem with this and did Frigidaire stand behind their product? The repair tech said the soap scum left behind with the regular detergent builds up on the rear bearing and destroys it. So now I have a 3 year old washer that to fix is about $450 when I paid just over $500 for.
Yes when the washer sounds like an airplane taking off during the spin cycle, it is a worn rear bearing.
it does happen from the wrong type of soap being used. the suds from regular soap will destroy the seal and allow water to get into the rear bearings causing the bearing to fail and become noisy.
HE type soaps have been recommended by the manufacturer for about 6-7 years now and you MUST use them to prevent this from happening. it can also happen with HE is you just use too much.
now the good news... the inner tub has a lifetime warranty but the outertub, comes with seals and bearings, may only have a 5 year part only warranty.
what you can do is to call frigidaire at the 800# and ask if they can check the warranty for you. a 3 year old and a 5 year old unit might be covered by a part warranty. if so then the labor to replace the tubs will be about 200-300 bucks. i know its a pricey repair but is certainly cheaper then buying a new washer.
by the way, all front load washers will do this if you use the wrong soap.
