Question about Dell Inspiron 5160 Notebook

1 Answer

Inspiron 5150 won't boot up

My laptop worked fine last night but when went to start it this morning it sounds like it is trying to boot up but nothing happens. I took the battery out and put it back in then tried again but still nothing. Could it have crashed and is there any way to retrieve the files that were saved on there. I can always re-load the sofftware but I need the files that were saved.

My laptop (inspiron 5160) is also not booting up. It had this problem whenever I left my laptop on charging while its shutdown. But normally after few attempts it starts. Two days back I left it in this condition (on charging while the laptop was shutdown) for about 12 hours and now its not booting up. When I switch it on the led’s blinks the fan goes on and then goes off in few seconds.

Please let me know if anybody has any idea what’s wrong with it?

Have you hooked to an external monitor to make sure its not just the display?

I have a Dell inspiron M5010. I have had it for about 6 months. The problem started with the keypad. At first certain letters/numbers wouldnt work at all. Then the computer had been unplugged from the power...

Sounds like a hardware fault, try taking the battery out and plugging it into the mains and see if that will start your laptop up.

Failing that have a look at the underneath of the laptop for the RAM cover...If there is 2 sticks try with only one in and if that doesn't work try just the other RAM stick in.

Try these things and let me know how you got on.

I do have a dell laptop, but last night it hangs up den i cannot turn it off already so i'd just let the battery empty, i recharge it wen i woke up in the morning den it says the computer was not shut down...

I second what computus suggested, but I believe you'll have to press F8 repeatedly during boot instead of ESC or Del button. Boot up in safe mode and it should be able to restore things :-)

Dell inspiron 1525 won't turn on

Try to take out the battery and just use the adapter to power it on,
If your done with that then try just using the battery to turn it on, if it still won't give a single light.
If you can borrow an ac adapter for that laptop try it ,
If it still doesn't work. You'll need to replace the motherboard. Just make sure the ac adapter your gonna use is working good.

Flashing cursor on inspiron 5150

I assume the power LED is on when you boot up the laptop and the power adapter is OK.
If I understand you, the RAM module is in memory slot A and not in slot B. If not the RAM module needs to be in slot A.
When a laptop doesn't the RAM module may only needs re-seating or the RAM module is faulty.
Re-seat the RAM module, and if this then take the RAM module and get it tested at your friendly computer shop.

Dell B130 won't load up

Finding where the problem is.
Start windows in SAFE MODE
You will see the last file that it hangs at. Usually AGP440.sys
Disabling AGP440.sys
Boot the system - Hold F8 Key
before the METER BAR on the bottom starts

Go to the Recovery Mode -
When it ask for directory <1> should be shown (unless you have multiple boot partitions.
When in the console mode enter
disable AGP440 (or AGP440.sys)
***depends on SP level***

Exit the console and attempt to reboot normally

hope that helps
