Make sure it has power (ejects). Check Device Manager in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Right click My Computer > Manage. Select Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices. Now delete all DVD/CD-ROMs and reboot. Windows will say "New Hardware Found" and install. Check BIOS by pressing F key (correct F key is noted during boot) F2? and make sure BIOS see's the Optical Drive.

Cd does not spin on compaq ipaq machine, does it need a seperate power supply?

Most probably the CD-ROM is already malfunctioning. Since it's an internal CD-ROM, it should just be connected to the Power Supply that is inside the CPU.

CD Rom do not need any extra drivers, the drivers are provided by your Operating System ie Windows.

The only thing that need updating for a CDROM, may the firmware for the CDROM.

Most probably your CDROM has malfunction or faulty. Replace the CDROM drive.

The drive is malfunctioning -- when it cannot read the CD-disk, it opens the tray. For less than $40, you can buy a brand-new CD/DVD-writer, and responsibly recycle the malfunctioning device.

Drive can't load many cd's. Cleaned the head with alcohol. Still erratic loading problem.

It might need to be replaced. Check the CD type. There are also CDs that certain drives does not accept. Check if it has a + or - sign beside it. Also check if your CD-ROM can read a + or - CD type. But usually, if this is the problem, I usually recommend replacing the CD-Rom drive. If you really want to repair it then try the motors inside, it could be malfunctioning. If you'd rather replace it, try buying the one that can read +/- CD. I also recommend buying a "DVD-RW +/-" instead of an ordinary CD-ROM. It can function and read all CD or DVD with a "+" or a "-" type. You can also burn CD or DVDs using this.

Tsstcorp cd dvdw ts-l633a scsi cdrom device can't read the driver or it is corrupt. I am getting error code 39

Using Device Manager, look to see it laptop is sensing the presence of the cd-rom. (if it is not on the list, try removing / rebooting / and then reinstalling cd-rom) If it shows on the list, click to open it's properties and then delete the drivers for cd-rom (this will cause the laptop to reload the drivers on the next reboot) if it still doesn't work, go to micosoft updates and try to update the drivers there. If it still malfunctions, then the cd-rom may be faulty. Try replacing it with another cd-rom and see what you get.

DVD/CD ROM does not open

There should be a small hole on the front panel of the DVD-ROM. Take a paper clip and insert it into the hole and push to open the tray. If the DVD-ROM tray continues to malfunction, you'll need to replace it. DVD-ROMS run anywhere from $25.00 to $75.00.
