Question about Rowenta Powerglide DM273 Iron

1 Answer

2 screws on bottom of iron are rusted

Two screws on the bottom of my DM273 Rowenta iron are rusted. When I use the steam setting and set my iron up, the screws get moisture on them and then when I iron, rust spots drip on the article I am ironing. The rust is not coming from inside the iron but from those screws. Can I get replacement screws from Rowenta? The screws have a different kind of head on them.

They do take a special tool. However I have used an allen wrench and it will remove them. Take them to a local hardware store or sears and get the same screw thread pitch in stainless steel and with a phillips or slotted head

Screw on back of iron is loose. standard allen wrench doesn't fit.

Probably what they call a torx head. If it has a tip in the center then it will be a security torx head. sets of torx head wrenches or screwdriver type are readily available.

Iron spits out rusty water. The iron is a Rowenta

Fill it with a mix of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Let it set for 30 minutes and steam it out for about 2 minutes. Unplug it and dump it. After it cools colpletely, fill it with water and steam it out. The rust is coming from your water supply, not the iron.

Rust coming from iron

See if you can get a hold of some CLR (Calcium, Lime, and Rust). It's a cleaner most drug stores and hardware stores carried in the states. Pour that into the system and then flush it out. Make sure the CLR isn't in the iron before you use it again.

Use filter water in your iron in case there is rust or sediment in the tap.

Rowenta Effective

The rust spot are probably caused by iron in your tap water. I would suggest you put a solution of half vinegar and half water into the water chamber and leave in the iron overnight.

Then switch it on to steam and holding the iron over the sink or over an old towel, the dirt (residue) comes out of the holes on the soleplate. Sometimes if the iron is badly scaled you might need to repeat the descaling.

Once complete, fill again with clean water and steam away, to flush any of the remaining vinegar out of the iron.

Depending on how often you use your iron and how much iron is in your water, you might consider performing this flush process every 2 or 3 months. It will help extend the life of your iron.

Another option is to use distilled water in your iron. Distilled water has all the minerals removed.

Good Luck!
