On the back of the camera you should see a little picture of a lightning bolt. Click this multiple times and it will cycle thru the different flash settings. Look for the one where the bolt is in a circle and there's a diagonal line going across it. This means NO FLASH. Once you have set that it will prevent the camera from firing the flash.

Screen does not show images

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

My computer does not reconize my camera when I try to down load pictures with my zoom browser. The camera is a Canon PowerShot SD450 Digitial Elph

You need to install the drivers for your camcorder, before you conncet your camcorder to your PC.

The drivers are in the CD which came with your camcorder. follow these steps

1- inser the CD( If you do not have your CD go the link below to download it

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=323&modelid=11939)
2- select install drivers
3- after drivers are installed, Connect your camcorder to your PC, turn it on and follow the screen untill it states your camcorder is installed and ready
4- Now if you click start, then computer you should see an icon which has all or part of canon powershot SD450. Double click on this icon. You would see one or more folders with your pictures and videos stored in it.

You may now download, copy, delete etc all of them.

My Pwershot SD450 will not take photos in low or interior light.

I hope that you have selected "flash on". Try first on at all times;and then flash AUTO.
ISO at 400 or 800
Does it flash when you take a picture ?
If not, and it is selected to flash, then the capacitor or bulb needs replacing.

SD450 lcd went black

Please see the following post, and look for the SD400 LCD repair link. Click on the pictures of that site for larger pics. Follow the disassembly instructions, but skip the lengthy LCD removal portion. Instead just look for the LCD connector as shown on the front of the camera. Unseat the cable from the connector as shown by lifting the connector gate, BUT DO NOT unthread the cable through the camera. Merely examine its ends, and if it looks dirty gently clean it with a drop of alcohol on a Qtip. Give it some time to dry, and then reseat it back into its connector, close the connector gate, reassemble the camera and try it out.

Make sure you also read the following Flash Capacitor Shock Warning post on the above blog site before proceeding.

http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/important-warning-camera-flash.html

Good Luck and hope it works. If it doesn't the next step would be to check out the electrical wire power connection to the back light.

Canon sd450 - spilled a little lemonade on the camera

maybe the lemonade was sticky and the shutter can't open? otherwise the circuitry could have been fried if you turned it on before it dried inside.

Turns on, takes pictures, blank screen

I know in most digital cameras there is an option buried in one menus to turn display OFF. Perhaps, you can have a look around in the various menus to turn screen back on. Also, there should be another button or feature that allows you to view the shots you've taken.
