I have a AVR-1707 surround receiver but the remote controller has deceided not to work. The red light is on and I can not get any of the buttons to work. I have changed the batteries and still nothing. Please help....

Follow the sound back to its source. FM is internal so it can't possibly have a cabling issue.
I imagine your TV sound ultimately originates from a cable box which has a nice juicy digital output that the Denon could use. Why route audio through a TV, like the manuals tell you, when you can get it straight to the best audio device without a detour to a TV and its dubious audio electronics?
Use the twin phono audio out on tv to twin phono audio in on Denon AVR-1707 this should work absolutely fine as long as your using an analogue input on the tv if HDMI you would need to purchase a Digitial to analogue audio converter. Hope this helps
please apply a new fresh battery to it-confirm from right orientation(polarity)-try to apply a contact cleaner spray over the bad button and press it many times.-remove any thing between remote and receiver.-you can use universal remote and confirm befor you buy the new remote that it support your receiver.
