Faulty monitor after one year

I wrote previously about my Acer monitor which lasted about 13 months. I want to know if I buy another Acer monitor, will its performance life be that short.

Hi Shirley,

In Singapore, Acer monitor is 3 years warranty.

If the your monitor is out-of-warranty, please consider replacing. It is cheaper than repair.

Performance life is normally around 2.5 yrs ++. Normal faults is due to manufacturing defects.

Ive had that problem recent, same monitor. Same months to be exact, though started around October 2010 then got worse. Do not send it back to Acer, I did and the cost was 20 bucks to ship to them and all I got was a note and monitor back saying they tested and then did Extended testing and found nothing. Not even had it for 1 year or 2 years to say, 3 year warranty. Just going to buy a new one and perhaps a LED from ASUS, the V stands for Value on Acer website, guess I got what I payed for. Think it was $166 I payed for this thing. It is shame, as its nice monitor but I cannot have it not trusty like this, cannot even play some games without it going off like this. Worst if I put the monitor in Graphics or Movie mode makes it worse it seems.

you have a rgb connection or a dvi connection.

do not engineer your own version of a vga/dvi cable.

just go and buy a new cable, which should be cheap

here is a service guide for this monitor

Acer has a 3 year coverage on the LCD Monitors.
I have seen this before the power supply inside the screen has went bad.

I would contact Acer Support 1-800-816-2237.
You will have to pay for shipping just so you know.

I hope this helps please let me know..

vertical lines on a screen means the screen itself is bad. If you can find your receipt, return that monitor to Best Buy cause there is no way to resolve it except to replace the screen and that costs as much as buying a new monitor.

How long should my Acer AL1916W last, I bought it a little over a year ago and It's dead?

In my mind everything should last forever but cause most everything is manufactured overseas in bulk, there is bound to be problems cause of lack of quality checks and recalls.

In your case cause there is no power then its either going to be bad caps on the power board or a bad lcd that is shorting out the monitor.

Either way it would be more cost effective to buy a new monitor unless you have good soldering skills to where you can look for puffy caps and replace them with caps of the same value.

caps=capacitors

Yes, I'd say your cable is faulty. If it is the type you can disconnect, then change it. If it is moulded to the monitor then you might have a problem. check all of the pins on the connector to make sure they are in tact and not bent.
