You need to run again the XP installation CD and better if you format and partition the hard drive when you do that....

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a new harddrive would work but it is not necessary. A few ides to consider:

  • did you re-partition the hard drive before formatting?
  • partition, reformat the harddrive using a 2nd PC using an HD to USB adapter;
  • remove the memory and clean the little gold pins using a hard pencil eraser;
  • set the CMOS/BIOS to default all.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!,

You will need to re-install Windows XP again because it is a corrupted file in Windows causing this. I this does not solve it, a new HDD is the way to go!

Hope it solves your problems -P3NGYJ03

  1. Save the files from the CD to your computer.
  2. Connect your player to the computer, a dialog box will appear asking you what do you want windows to do.
  3. Select “Synchronize media files” and click OK.
  4. Drag and paste the media files from “My Computer” folder to the sync list of windows media player.
  5. Select “Start Sync” on Windows Media Player to start file synchronization to your player.

We have been unable to get the machine to dubb our tapes to a DVD. We get a message that is the universal signal for "do not". (Circle with a line throught it.)

It sounds like the format on your tape is not one that your system can dub directly onto a DVD. I run my video tapes through Pinnacle Studio 9 or 10, process, and then burn onto DVD. Windows XP has a movie maker program to do this, and some people use Nero successfully.

Copy from VHS c to DVD

Older movies will do that w/out problem. newer dvds will not because of piracy protection. A way to copy vhs to dvd is hook up a dvd camcorder or digital camcorder from the output on the player to the input on the recorder and press record that should work.

My cd/dvd drive does not work - previously working fine - could be after trying to copy a dvd a couple of weeks ago. any ways i can prevent reformatting hard drive and reloading xp again. everything else...

Hi,
you should,nt have to re-format or setup xp again.
1:) check the computer for viruses. viruses-trojans et,c malicious software can lock off drives.
2:) go into start/control panel/system/device manager.
click on cd/dvd drive if it,s there, uninstall it. restart the computer, you should then get a message new hardware found.
install drivers as necessary.
3:) check the drives cables. the 4 pin molex connecter ( plastic block ) with 1 red 1 yellow 2 blacks, to ensure it,s connected correctly. or try an alternative one if available.
Also check the 40-80 pin ide cable.
4:) try a secondary cable ( 40 pin ) on the secondary connector from the motherboard ( if not in use ) set drive as a master.

Hope this helps.
