Question about Toshiba Satellite A60 Notebook

Open Question

Unexpected shutdown I had the same problem, took it to a service dept and they cleaned the laptop (I hadn't yet discovered this site). They updated the firmware and reinstalled windows from the Toshiba recovery CD. When i took it home i tried to update windows to the latest SP. The process stopped in the middle. When i tried to reboot, i only got a blue screen. Tried rebooting with a new version of XP Pro. I get to the stage where i can partition the hard disk but as soon as i format (full) it stops at 0% or 6%, no further. Could it be dirt again? Even the recovery CD doesn't work. The HDD is new. Any ideas?

hi. I have problems for a number of months; the computer would shut down after a few hours. I'd let it cool, remove and replace the battery and then it works again. One day the computer refused to boot. I removed the HDD and checked it for errors using an external case. There were some errors so i replaced the HDD with a new one.

To do a good job, i took it to a repair shop who said they cleaned the computer, upgraded the firmware and reinstalled the OS.

I took it home, and it was working okay until i updated the OS using Windows Update. SP2 would not install and when i rebooted, the problems started with the boot going into a loop.

I tried to reinstall the OS but every time i do so, the install does not go past the format stage when i create a partition. This is a new HDD so i'm concerned that something is damaging the HDD in the process. I hope that clarifies my earlier post.

it sounds like it is a hardware problem. You said they cleaned it and it worked again?

If the Computer restarts randomly, then the issue might be due to any damaged Operating System Files.
But, if the Computer shuts down randomly, it is due to the Processor.
All the Processors will be designed in such a way that, if there is any overheating issues, the Computer will shut down randomly.
The overheating might occur due to the malfunction of the Cooling Fan in the Computer.
As this is a overheating issue, it would be better to get the Unit examined at the Service Center.
Replacing the Cooling Fan in the Computer should resolve the issue.

Hello

Thank you for using FixYa.

Have you cleaned out the airvents and fan area. these build up with dust and if the unit gets too hot it will shut down unexpected

Also always use on a hard surface so the airvents are kept clear

thanks

Aspire 5630 - Unexpected shutdown!! This weekend, the laptop just shutdown without any warning! I switched it back on, and then after 30 mins, the same issue!!! I checked the battery, and was charging OK....

Depending on the age of the laptop, it could well be overheating. Let it cool down good, and try again. If that is the problem, you will have to clean out the cooling system with a can of air.

DO NOT USE AN AIR COMPRESSOR ! ! !

Unexpected shut down

First, you need to find out what is causing the shutdown problem.

Most likely since you have this laptop for 3years now and (i am assuming you havent had this serviced). You might be suffering from overheat problems since you are using a DESKTOP P4 cpu.

Try to dismantle your laptop and remove the Fan and Heat sink. CLEAN them and put new thermal paste to the cpu.

Do that and see if this fixes the problem. If not, let me know again

If i was able to help please rate this solution as a fixya!

thanks
