Question about RCA D52W23 52" HDTV CRT TV

1 Answer

RCA TV question....

I had posted a question about my tv, and was browsing through other peoples problem, and saw an interesting comment you added for sometime....about checking these fuses...that didnt look like fuses, but rather small brown caps....

I have a RCA D52W23 tv, and it had started doing the tricolor ghosting/double image thing....and the screen at the top and bottom looked like it was caving in towards the center.... i had taken everything apart, nothing looked damaged, smelled burned, or arcs when i power the set on.....then after a couple of minutes of looking for the "Auto-Convergance" option i knew was in setup, i could no longer find it, and then as i was looking through the menus the tv powered off completely. and now if you press the power button, the power lights up for a few seconds, the screen never turns on, then the whole unit turns off....and you can't power it back on....unless you unplug it from the wall for a few minutes and try it again.

Does this sound like the same kind of problem? I hate to bug ya so close to new years, but it sounds like you know the exact problem i have. I'd appreciate any help, thanks!

RCA Guideplus gold gemstar analog or digital

Most of the RCA GuidePlus Gold gemstar TVs worked with analog TV signals (NTSC) only. The Guide+ information was only broadcast in NTSC signals and is no longer being provided. If you can check the date of manufacture of the TV, you can use the size to check if it had an ATSC tuner added if it was made for the US market. 37"+ TVs had to have a digital tuner in second half of 2005. 25" TVs needed to have the ATSC tuner after March, 2006. The next year all TVs had to have a digital tuner.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the model number of the TV, if you would like me to confirm the tuner information on your set.

(The RCA F31317 TV with Guide+ was manufactured in 2000 and thus only has a NTSC tuner.)

I was asking about use of Arbor Oil and not received any information. Why waste our time with this site? It is totally useless and crammed with junk ads.

I have no idea what Arbor oil is so I skip questions like that. My table saw has sealed bearings on the arbor and no place to insert oil.

Also, every time you ask a question, assume the last answer came from someone who just died and went to heaven.

I have a RCA RT2870A that i need a manual or help hook it up to TV and DCD

This is the manual for the 2770 from

If it has the same inputs as yours, you need an "optical" cable that will go from the TV "output" to the RCA system "optical input" and a "Coaxial Digital" cable from your DVD player to the "Coaxial Digital input of the receiver. Not knowing what kind of TV you are hooking this up to... If it's and LCD,Plasma, or Digital TV, it will have an optical audio out. if it's not one of these, post the model number of your TV & I'll check it. If you are using Cable TV/Satellite or FIOS, Great! then you can run the optical cable from the back of the cable box to the receiver. If you need any more help, just post a comment and I can help you some more.

T.V won't turn back on

Sounds like a component shorted out for sure. I will guess he will say, "It needs a new power board". I would guess a transistor or microchip burnt out. Probably ESD damage from a new factory worker.

I added another update-- sorry for the delay

Sorry for delay, just back from vacation...

The pictures look like you have white retrace lines which indicate that all the colors are working. No picture would indicate there is either no video signal present or the video processor is not functioning. If the set has an RCA video input try connecting a video game or other composite video source (remember to set the tv to the aux or video input). If you then get a picture the processor is working and the problem may lie in the conversion of the over-air video signal. If you get no picture with any input type I would suspect the video processor chip (probably the largest chip on the board). See if you can find a Datasheet for the chip and check the voltage input(s). If the chip (or any chips) get excessivly hot they would also be suspect.
Keep me posted on any progress...
