Question about Dell E173FPf 17" TFT LCD Flat Panel Monitor

No power to monitor

Dell Monitor E173FPf 4 years old bought with processor and keyboard etc as a package from Dell. No problems to date until now. When switch power on at the plug to the monitor, the monitor on/off button does not light up so suspected fuse blown. Changed the fuse in the monitor plug. Connected to the monitor, switched power on at the plug, heard a short fiz/electrical noise then nothing.
Any ideas of an easy fix? OR can you suggest an alternative Dell monitor that is currently available as I do not believe this model is still available? (Reason I would prefer Dell is 4 years seems to be pretty good and no/low risk of monitor being incompatible with the rest of the system). It is used by my retired parents mainly for the internet so it does not need to be top of the range etc.
Thanks if you can help and HAPPY NEW YEAR

4 years is a good life for a monitor, so i agree you can stick to Dell since its already proven itself... :) - As you mentioned, this monitor is not currently being sold from Dell, I would suggest an upgrade to a 19" - http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&sku=320-5629 or a 23" one http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-7339 ... if i were you, i would choose a 23", but for a higher pricing :) (Answered this earlier for someone else too i suppose!)

Yes, but the cost is not worth it. If you get it apart you will no doubt find a couple of bulging capacitors. Dell site has the disassembly instructions.

NO POWER ON INDICATOR LIGHT AND NO Screen Raster on Monitor

Hi,

Initially, pls check D854 on the Power Supply/Logic board. It is a dual diode. If you would prefer board replacement rather than component level repair, this might be of help. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

This is of course in addition to checking the usual, power cord, fuse, outlet etc.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Dell E173FPf lcd- no picture, steady green light

E173FPf Mfg December 2004
This E173FPF has changed much inside from the November 2003 E172fpb which had the famous 4 identical transistors 5707 that would tend to fail in pairs. If your newer E173FPF displays a green power light and fails to display a picture try replacing the 220uf25v capacitors at C6 and C26. Test them with a volt ohm meter and they will test Ok, replace them anyway. Radio Shack did not have the 25v so I used the 35v, display works fine now. There is an E173FPF repair kit with directions available on Ebay if you don't have a parts store in your area and would prefer delivery.

i'm not an expert at anything...x'cept maybe dumpster diving. God Bless

Dell e173fpf lcd monitor is grey

Sounds like the AD section of the board may be junk. I did the same thing - bought the board from lcdrepair.com.

I submitted an RMA request to get a replacement. The process was difficult due to the pdf form they make you fill out. Lots of errors and no good way to submit it, since it wants to use outlook, but the pdf isn't configured properly to do so. Seems fishy, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now. We'll see.

No power in dell e173fpf

I would expect the same (new) part failed. Try another dual diode otherwise you may be chasing the problem around the board.. Good Luck, Tim
