If you hit enter does it boot up? If so then that is you windows password that will lock up your keyboard if you walk away from the notebook. If enter works with no password then you haven't setup that option yet.

My emachine desktop computer is asking for a password as soon as I turn it on, won't go to anything else and Ive not put a password on it

Have you received a phone call from "Microsoft" or someone else that tells you that your computer is infected with a virus or that it has a problem? If you did and you followed their instructions, your computer will need to be fixed by a computer shop, preferably one that is good with security or recovery. The password it is asking for is the BIOS password, and unless you know what yoou are doing, your computer is dead.

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but this will tell you how to reset the password. If you want to know other information please ask a more detail question.

How to reset you bios password.

Step 1: Power off you computer and unplug power cable.

Step 2: Open the computer case so that you can see the motherboard.

Step 3: Find the 3 pin jumper on your motherboard and put it on the other pin. Ex: If it is on 2 and 3 you will want to put it on 1 and 2.

Step 4: Plug your power cable back into you computer and turn it on. (Note: Your computer will not load you operating system.)

Step 5: Shutdown your computer and unplug it again.

Step 6: Put the jumper back into it original position.

Step 7: Plug your power cable back in and turn your computer on.

Now you bios password should be reset.

To enter the bios press the the F2 or Del key when your computer is turning on. (Note: This varies for different manufacturers.)

I hope that this helps you!

Asking for a power on password - how to override

Dear Khollis,
Try entering blank password ... I mean just press enter and that should go away or if doesn't then please follow the process given below:
  1. Remove the power cord from the chassis
  2. press and hold the power button on tower after removing the power cord (this is to drain the charges that might still be in the CPU)
  3. Open the chassis.
  4. Now, remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard.. It might be at different places on different motherboards however if you have difficulty finding one then here is the image of how it looks. Refer to the link for image : Note: Please check the polarity of the battery before removing.
  5. Now connect the power to the CPU (without plug-in in the CMOS battery).
  6. This time it should not ask you for the password.
  7. Now once again follow the steps 1 to 3 and plug the battery back with the correct polarity noted down in step 4.
That should help. Please let me know if there are still any issues.

Blue screen asking for password

if this happens before you see a windows (assuming that is your OS) screen, chances are it is a password that is prompted by the bios. you will either need the password from whereever you got the computer or use another computer and get a program that can retrieve a bios password from the eeprom.

the password it is asking for is probably the administrator password. If there is someone else that uses the computer also they may be set as the administrator and you probably have a normal user account.
YOu need to get the administrator password before you can install the printer. If this seems to be a normal problem for you then you should have yourself set as an administrator(control panel>user accounts))
Let me know if this helps with your problem and thanks for using FIxYa

What can i do to unlock my hp laptop,is asking me for a password and i have no idea..

Is the password being asked in the bios level or the operating system user level??? is its the bios, then u will need to take off the bios battery for ten seconds and put it back in, if its the operating system, one and best way, is to have the operating system freshly installed, or go to safemode, and enter as an administrator, and change password of users or better, elminate the passwords.

I just bought a acer home set up, a few days ago. I gave it a neme, a user name, but NO! password. Now its asking me for a password , that I have no idea of. It gives me an option of a password disk,...

I bet there's a default password, perhaps set at the factory by Acer or the seller (see your invoice), or to the username. It should be noted that your OS is asking you for a password, making it kind of an OS or maker-specific issue, not so general.

I'm not sure any modern OS lets you create a null or weak password either. Make a nice secure one once you log in. Your fingers can remember most of WEINTZL20451719querzintinocrantz for you after the first 2 times.
