Question about Dell OptiPlex GX280 PC Desktop
If you take out your old disk, all your data goes with it .. also, the new disk will not come with MS Windows already on it .. you will have to install from Windows CD .. and you will need the License Key (hopefully still to be found stuck on the top or back of the PC)....
The other choice is to 'clone' your old disk to your new disk first .. this transfers all your data across and avoids the need to re-install windows ..
To actually swap the disk over, RTFM .. (see your PC's service manual on the Dell site)

Pull off cover. Locate the same hd as the one you are replacing. Label the wires and how they connect into the hd. Green tabs usually need to be depressed and hd should come out or check for screws holding it in. Afterwards turn on pc if it boots up you should be fine if not you will need to install an operating systems. like windows xp or vista.

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Hi, I have had lots of experience installing hard drives. You never get exactly 80gb when it is partioned. Some space is utilized for other things that cannot be used. So you aren't doing anything wrong. Just another way companies can make you think your getting more then you really are.

set the SATA OPERATIONS to RAID/AUTODETECT in bios...and then do the reinstallation
you may have to even install the raid drivers which is available on the dell resource cd...when u start setup at one point it gives you an option to press F6 to install third party drivers opt for it and install the raid drivers using resource cd if the first option doesn't help

You need to set up the second drive as a slave, this is done with jumper settings, if you look on the bottom of the hard drive you will see the settings required for the jumper.
