For the DV4000
CTO Version: http://www.notebookparts.com/products/description.php?II=9595
Part#: 383483-001 40GB Hard Drive. I googled part number and found this link. Hope this helps.

If you have the MV version, you will need at least a 60GB hard drive, Part#: 384483-001

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

- try going to bios and check if the HDD is detected
- if yes, load default bios
- if not detected, go to HP website and see if there's an option how to reset the HDD
- if resetting the HDD did not resolved it, then you need to replace the HDD

Can i replace the the hp pavilion DV4000 SERIES 80GB (4200 RPM) HARD DRIVE with any 7200 rpm notebook hdd?

You should be able to replace it, but you will need an adapter lead from laptop hdd to motherboard as the laptop hdd will be smaller and you may need a kit to fix hdd into 3.5" bay. Both are readily available.

The power adapter that plugs into the laptop HP DV4000 is broken, and I can't use the charger. where can I find a new one to replace the broken one, or will I have to buy a whold new charger? thanks

Do you mean only the power cable that linked the power brick with laptop was broken? Of course if you are 100% sure that's the only part that fail, you may only buy a cable. Check this link blow:
http://www.chargerbuy.com/cable-connector/power-cord.html

But if you are not that sure, i'll suggest you buying a whole new charger:

I don't know the model of internal hard drive for my HP pavillion dv9420us. My system crashed and we have been unable to restore it after performing all HP suggested tests, etc.

Take the computer to any local computer store.
They can remove the disk-drive, identify it, either as "IDE" or "Serial ATA", and sell you a replacement (which need not match the manufacturer or model or size of the original), and will connect it.

Then, you will need to reinstall Windows.

I installed a new battery in My HP DV4000 laptop but it won't charge. It's a 8800mah and says 11.1 volts. The old one says 10.8 volts. Any ideas?

this problem happens when the voltage of the battery is slightly less or equal or more than the output voltage of the charger u need a more powerful charger for charging that battery

HP DV4000 Series not detecting newly installed DVD±RW LightScribe

The type of CD/DVD recorder is suppose to be automatically detected by your Plug N Play portion of your BIOS. Reboot and press the "F" key combination that will bring up the boot process as opposed to the CMOS Settings. See if the correct DVD model shows up as one of your boot electives. You may be able to change it in that window. If not then reboot to BIOS and change it there.

have you recently loaded any new hardware or software to the system.  if so... this may be the source of the problem.  you would want to load in safe mode and remove whatever you changed.  that would then fix the problem.  i wouldn't jump to the conclusion that your operating system is corrupt just yet.  it sounds as though it is doing exactly what it should when it comes upon a conflict in the system.
