These are processor intensive tasks that generate alot of heat from the cpu. The motherboard is designed to turn off immediately when a certain heat threshhold is reached. Sometimes the cut off point can be set in the BIOS, sometimes not.

Check your vent holes for clogging. Listen specifically to be sure the fans are coming on. Also feel the top and bottom of the laptop right after it cuts off. If it is heat related, you might have to partially disassemble to clear the lint and dust from the heatsink itself.

Will not configura updates from microsoft goes to 30%then shuts down computer will not start properly after

Try running a Virus scan with AVG. When completed you can remove the program using uninstall.

Next, check to see what service pack you are running.

Go to Microsoft and download that service pack and install it.

You may also check while at Microsoft and run fixit for me.

Hope this helps

P.S . disable any virus software before running AVG

Fit to disc

My apologies but I'm not familiar with the Ulead product you use but I hope what I've written below may be of some use

Fundamentally you need to re encode the AVi to a smaller file size. It seems odd to me that you have AVi files that are too big for a 4.7Gb DVD disc unless you are using a flashy front end. A simple way to convert with minimum input from you would be to use Any Video Convertor Professional to resize the AVi file to a more usable size. By decreasing either or both the Video and audio of the AVI within Any Video Convertor Professional this should sort your problem out. Just ensure you keep the aspect ratio the same if this is what you require.
There is a free version of Any Video Convertor

Laptop will not boot after vrus warning.

try booting into safe mode? on a pc hit F8 repeatedly while you boot until you get a boot screen with the safe mode option. Some laptops have differant keys, eg F2, <Del>, F10, but ussualy they state this when it boots up.

when you get into safe mode, go to your run prompt and type "msconfig" hit enter. got to startup, disable all.Go to services, disable all. reboot. if this works, try running an pdated antivirus scan. I recommend using Avast! which is like AVG. It can do a start up scan. also try running something like 'trojan remover' which is free to download.

Good luck! :)

Want to completely re-install system to basic specs using CDs that came with my notebook. Already did a back-up of my files I need. Don't know what to do next.

If you insert the restore disc and reboot the machine and when the laptop is booting up hold down f12 and you should get the boot menu select the CD/DVD drive and it should be straight forward from there.
