Wifi is saying limited or no connectivity

I have done the update on off windows from the other post.
i basically rebooted the computer with the xp service 2 cd and everything was wiped clean. so i installed the wireless driver again but it just keeps saying aquiring network address and than limited or no connectivity.
i am using a safecom swbarr 5400 router. it all worked fine before i rebooted it and my other laptop works fine.

Hello Rifaaqat,

Ok this could be several things, but lets list them in order and if you follow these instructions you should be able to connect ok.

To start.....

First check to see if there is any wireless secuirty on your router and if so, set the secuity to NONE and while your at it, change the channel on the router (IF you can... dont worry if you cant as not all routers are easy to change chanel) plus if there is a friewall or anti-virus enabled (EITHER on your computer OR on the router) then disable it.

IF THAT DOES NOT HELP.......

Second...

From you CONTROL PANEL click on “Network Connections” then click your connection.

Next RIGHT CLICK on the connection it shows you and a pop-up window will appear. Choose PROPERTIES.

That will open a "Local Area Connection properties" window. You will find a box showing different icons look for the one which says Internet protocol (TCP/IP). When you have found it highlight this and click on the property button below.

A new window "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" will appear from this window and you have to make sure that the following options are selected:

1."Obtain an IP address Automatically"
2. "Obtain DNS server address Automatically"

If they are NOT selected then select them and then click OK.
It will now take you back to the previous window again click apply, OK and close.

Reboot your computer and you should be good to connect.

As a final note, if your having any problems accessing your routers on-line interface remember that the defualt username and password for logining in to it is normally set to “admin” and “safecom”

Hope that helps you, so please leave a rating so I know if it has.

Good luck.

Please follow these steps
Click Start >Run >regedit {enter}
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock and delete it; just below that, see HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2 and delete it
Exit Regedit and reboot.
To Reinstall TCP/IP

To do this you need a copy of nettcpip.inf. There is one on the Windows XP CD and there may be one on your hard drive at C:\WINDOWS\inf\nettcpip.inf. Note: To see the inf folder, open My Computer and go to the menu item Tools > Folder Options... > View > and choose Show hidden files and folders.
Right click "My Network Places" select Properties.
Right click the connection(s) and select Properties.
Click Install >Protocol >add >have disk.
Browse to the location of nettcpip.inf .
Select nettcpip.inf then click Open then OK then Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then OK then Close
Reboot

Resetting as in clean install or just rebooting? If in the case of resetting you may need to reinstall your wifi driver from your computer maker's website. After that, windows update should download your other required drivers.

Tip

Increase your internet speed up to 20% in Windowx XP.

If you use Windows XP Professional then it is possible to squeeze an extra 20% out of your internet connection. By default Windows XP Pro holds back 20% of your Internet speed for various services like windows update and spyware checks.

If you want to tap into this locked speed then make the following changes:

1. Go to Start-> Run-> and type gpedit.msc
2. Expand the Administrative Templates branch
3. Expand the Network tab
4. Highlight QoS Packet Scheduler
5. Click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth and check the enabled box
6. Then Change the Bandwidth limit % to 0 %

Once you have done this click apply and restart your PC. After rebooting you should see a noticeable improvement in your net speed.

Tip

Recover the 20% bandwidth reserved for Windows Update

If you are using Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 you can get this 20% back quite easily if you use XP Home its a bit more difficult to say the least

fec90bf.jpg

Navigate to the Limit reservable bandwidth in the Local Computer Policy in the Network Administartive Templates

64b9818.jpg

Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the ‘Explain’ tab i.e.”By default,the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default.”

50221e4.jpg

So the trick is to ENABLE it then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20% set by Microsoft for Updating.

If you want to enable this function in Windows XP Home then you need to follow THIS tip first to install the GPEditor.

My XP laptops cannot connect to my TEW-639GR router over wifi. I get the "Limited or No Connectivity Message". The same 2 XP laptops can connect if they are wired without problems. My Ubuntu...

You can disable the notification so that it would either be on or off only and not a limited connection.

click on start > control panel > network connections
right click on the Local Area Connection > under the general tab, please uncheck the box that says "notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity" click on ok and then restart the computer.

After the restart, please check the network connection if is still says connected now or it is disconnected. We will check where we can proceed from there.

Wifi saying limited or no connectivity

Sounds like you have a bad piece of hardware. Can u surf with a hardwire to router? I would consider purchasing a wireless usb adapter and installing it to test with. The winsock repair that you performed would only fix a browser related issue. I doubt that you have mac address filtering enabled on your router, but if you do then that would explain why you cant connect. Then again you would be able to connect to other networks, just not yours. Hope this helps...tennis123

My computer has no Audio Device. the speakers work fine.

Hi,
Have you tried Windows Update,

If not follow this:

Click on start --> Programs --> Windows Update and accept all updates.

Windows update scans what your computer has connected to it and will see if there are any out-of-date drivers and software. it will also download them and install them for you automatically.

When this is done, restart the computer and check then if the sound is working.

Lan Network Problems

Hello: What I would say is: go to microsoft update and make sure you have all the updates for your OS.

Then; read the posting (below) from someone who had the same issue:
=============================================
stacemarie wrote: "XP SP 3 updates some networking sharing system LAN files that cause some configurations to become unaccessable on the workgrouped networks. We cannot - even ping - the network addresses after installing - so it was an uninstall and do a system restore to get to the original good working state of the clients.

Microsoft needs to come up with a patch to fix this as we are seeing more and more networked clients having these connection and sharing problems."
=================
Do you understand the above?

Let me know if you do not know how to unistall SP3 and do a Restore...
