Question about NetGear WGT624 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Cannot get past the IP entering details.

I have followed the install details on disc for the WGT624 up to where it asks for IP address, IP subnet mask, Gateway IP address,Primary DNS and Secondary DNS. I have entered these details on several occasions now and every time it says there is an error and to begin again. I have found all the details from ipconfig/all on the computer is this correct?. Instructions also state that I have to turn off the firewall which I have done only once but it still comes back with an error at the same point on the install process. Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong please.

Hello.....If your ISP has given you a static IP address to use to connect to the internet, they should also have given you the Subnet Mask, and Gateway IP Address - these are the settings to use.
If you don't have these settings, you will have a dynamic (variable) IP address. If so, try logging in to the router again, go to Basic Settings, and configure 'Internet IP Address' to 'Get Dynamically from ISP'.
Similarly, if your ISP has given you one or two DNS addresses, enter these up - but otherwise set as 'Get automatically from ISP'.
You might need to reboot one or more times for the settings to take effect. Hope this helps, but please come back to Fixya if it doesn't ...

The WGT624 v3 internet globe is blinking but the wireless light is not illuminated

Make sure the physical connection is good between the computer in question and the D-Link gateway. If you do not have a solid link light, try swapping cables. Make sure the ethernet adapter is installed and functioning properly.

If you are running any firewall software on the computer that cannot connect, disable it. Make sure the TCP/IP settings are set to obtain an IP address automatically. Try releasing and renewing the IP address for your ethernet adapter. It should pull a 192.168.0.x address with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and a default gateway of 192.168.0.1. If it does not get an IP address in this range, specify the address to be 192.168.0.10, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and add the default gateway and primary DNS 192.168.0.1. Try and go online.

If it still cannot get online, go to the Control Panel and open Internet Options. Restore the default settings on the Security and Advanced tabs. On the Configuration tab, make sure the Dial Up setting is set to never dial a connection. Click the LAN settings button. All you want selected here is automatically detect settings, uncheck the other two boxes. Try and go online.

Wireless linksys wrt54gs router

I have fixed this problem many times by entering just the gateway in the TCP/IP properties or all values as static e.g ip address, subnet mask and gateway as follows:-

Limited Connectivity | wireless network

Connect with an ethernet cable and find out the IP Address

Also note the Subnet Mask, Gateway, and Primary and Alternate DNS values

To get these :-

1. Double click on Local Area Connection under Control Panel --> "Network Connections"
2. Click "Support" --> Click "details"

Enter these values for the wireless area connection like this :-

1. Click "Start" -- > "Control Panel" --> "Network Connections"
2. Right click on "Wireless Area Connection" --> select "Properties"
3. Click on "TCP/IP" (in th middle box) -- > Click "Properties"
4. Click "To use the following ip address"
5. Enter the values you got from wired connection above
6. If you get any duplicate warning messages ignore these

This will resolve the issue, I have used it many times

1. check your wireless adapter TCP/IP settings if its set into "Obtain as IP address Automatically".
2. if the settings is set as Automatic and your not getting IP address then select "Use the following IP Address"
3. use IP address followed to your router address like if192.168.0.1 in router type 192.168.0.2 or192.168.0.3 just check the next address IP in your network.
4. after typing subnet IP will automatically set

Installation problem with edimax 6104kp

Hi Omdi,

Please proceed with the following instruction as follow.

1.) Connect first the modem to your pc, if you find it is working then get the IP Address, Subnet, Gateway, Primary DNS, Alternative DNS at the network properties TCP/IP.

2.) Open your router where you can configure the static IP or manually enter the IP address, subnet, gateway, primary dns, alternative dns.

3.) Make it sure you used the cable properly by connecting it to the appropriate line. For the modem to router you should connect the cable to WAN port. And the LAN port must be go through the computer.

If you still experience the problem, please let me know.

Best regards,

Philip
