Acer Aspire L100 will not power up

Hi
I have an Acer Aspire L100 desktop and it will not power up, not even the blue led to show power is on or the sound of the fan - nothing. I've checked the AC adapter and I'm getting the required 19V at the jack. The computer was working fine, I switched it off and later went back to it and turned it on, but since then it has stopped working. Please help....

    Hi

Thanks for the quick response, it is a desktop.

  • brianarmstro Dec 30, 2008

Yes I left it some time, in fact it has not worked for several days now. It is out of warranty, I bought it in March 2007.

I have the same issue, but I can hear the fan running. 2 months out of warranty I had to replace my motherboard and they tell me I have the same issue now. Why would a motherboard only last 6-7 months?

Where can I get a motherboard?

Is the power supply bad even if the light on it works?

  • Gerald Burnett May 11, 2010

Yes - a mini- desktop with the power supply on the outside. There have been a lot of problems with this machine. The biggest is overheating and having it shutoff. Did you leave it set for awhile and come back to it. If so - it still may be a power supply issue.
    Is this one under warranty?

Is this a dektop or laptop?

It's most likely not the power supply. I have a customer with the same problem. I used a power meter to see if the power supply worked and it checked out perfect. (You should still test it though, just in case.)
The only thing I can figure is a bad motherboard. Unfortunately, there's no visual signs of overheating, arc burns, or the like on this one to make it obvious... just one capacitor (the small one nearest to the power port) that has a slight bulge.

These things don't seem to be build to last, from what I've been reading.

Options:
-Break it down, sell the parts that are likely to still be good (wireless minipci card, memory, processor, heck - maybe even the front ports if you get longer cables/extensions), and maybe make around $200 that can be invested in a reliable machine.
-Or drop money into replacement parts. (but after what dj said about a second mobo going bad, I don't think it's worth investing more in this)

I reset my surge protector and the computer wont power up. i think i need a new power supply. the power cord is working fine. Please let me know where i can find a power supply for the aspire...

The Acer Aspire L100 is a desktop computer powered by a special DC adapter and power cable. The computer's motherboard incorporates a fuse designed to prevent any power surges from damaging the computer. If the fuse burns out due to a power surge or for any other reason, the computer will no longer function. You can check the motherboard fuse for damage yourself, then take it to a trained technician for replacement if needed

Shut down the Acer Aspire L100 and turn the tower around.

Press the "On/Off" button on the front of the tower. If the computer will not boot and the fan does not turn on, the fuse may be burned out.

Unplug the power cord from the rear of the tower

Turn the tower on its side and remove the Phillips-head screws connecting the back panel to the Aspire L100's cabinet.

Pull out the motherboard assembly gently from the back of the cabinet. The internal fuse is located on the motherboard behind the DC power jack, which is to the right of the monitor jack

Let me know if this helped..

My aspire L100 will not boot. When on button pressed blue light comes on and then goes off straight away and fan starts Ok but nothing else

You may need a new power supply....also check your internal fans to make sure they are spinning. Make sure memory is seated properly. Motherboard may also be in question. Try unplugging letting it sit for a few then plugging back in.

My Acer Aspire L100 PC Desktop won't start.. when i press power button it only flash LED light jus one time but no HDD sound or CDROM working sound. only CPU fan works thas bout it...Any help? pls

Do you see anything on the screen?

    Try the following things:
    1. Try starting the computer with only the battery
    2. Remove the battery and try booting with only the power adapter
    3. Try removing and replacing your memory
Could be a bad power supply or bad battery. After you try the above steps, report your results.

How do you turn it on?

On page 14 of the user's manual, they show a close-up of the location of the power button on your Acer L100 Desktop PC.

If you're missing your user's manual, Here's a link to the PDF version from their website (for the PDF, check page 24): http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/AcerSFF.pdf

I've also uploaded it to the Manuals section of the Aspire L100 series section of this website.

    Hope this helps,

Go back to Acer.com. The driver you want is the one that say's (Power 1000 chipset driver) that is if it's an integrated Network card. If it's not integrated then I would need the name on the card. Hope this helps.
