Will not always power up, just clicks and power light flashes. Vertical retrace lines at top 2" of screen. Keeps shrinking and goes completely away after about 5 minutes.

The JVC sets are well known for this type of problem, the tv has a vertical deflection issue needs a few small parts and a touch up on the vertical ic, causes the set to shutdown. I recommend a tv technician for the repair.

My Jvc has the timer light on and the screen wont turn on. Is there a reset switch that I might be able to switch or am i out of luck. It is pretty old.

The JVC sets were well known for vertical deflection problems, I'am afraid you can not do anything directly. To fix the set you will need a tv technician to check the set out and advise of the repair cost.

I HAVE GOOD AUDIO BUT A THIN LINE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN THAT HAS VIDEO. ALSO THE SCREEN IS BLACK ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM WITH THE THIN LINE OF VIDEO IN THE MIDDLE.

Have you vertical deflection circuit checked for bad Vertical IC, and or Bad vertical Capacitors in the vert output section for the deflection board. Also have Vertical output Pump up Capacitor replaced, also have B+ voltage check coming from flyback transformer, for any open fusible resistors

Horizontal Light Only

If you have a straight horizontal line in the middle of the screen the vertical deflection has gone out. Itll need to be repaired, the vertical deflection IC is bad. Hope this helps.

JVC TV AV-32870 will not turn on. blinking timer light

Worth taking it in since it is hard to find a new TV for less than $300. I have a 32 inch JVC iart that for about 2 years would turn itself off and the timer light would blink. Only thing that worked would be to disconnect and turn back on. Eventually, the tv "popped" I could smell something that burned out and within 3 weeks tv went "dead" Took it to a tv repair place and replaced power unit for $150. I had similar problem with a 19 inch Philips and that tv has been going strong for 4 years since repair.

Good Luck

It sounds like a vertical deflection problem. You mentioned you had a white HORIZONTAL LINE in the middle of the screen. If this line runs from left to right across the screen it's in Verticla deflection. If it runs from top to bottom, it's in Horizontal deflection. I am assuming the problem is a Vertical deflaecion problem. The repairs necessary are most likley to replace the vertical capacitors or the verticla deflection chip.
Good Luck

One thing you should not do with electronic devices which have a start up proceedure is to turn the power off, and then on again without a wait of about five minutes. Some equipment manuals warn you about this, and specify a longer period. The start-up has to have time to reset. It will be more likely to reset if you do not leave it on standby, and even unplug it. In your TVs case you need to describe the distorted picture as it may give a clue to a fault, or incorrect start-up. The horizontal line indicates the frame timebase had stopped working. No picture could be a fuse blown inside the set, or a timed cutout which may reset after a time. Try after several hours to see if it comes on. If it is just the frame timebase (vertical) it is worth repairing.
