My husband was watching tv last night, then this morning he tried to use the direct tv remote and could not adjust the volume or turn the tv off like he could before. Then he took the regular tv remote and can not adjust volume, none of the buttons will work, tried to change the batteries and nothing. Tried to program universal remote to use with that tv but nothing, Can anyone help me? We purchased this tv more than a year ago and does not have warranty anymore.....

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. If it is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It has details about how to check a remote control; by one among the post. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Sidebar" will make surf easy. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
To buy its original remote control, contact the authorized service centre, or authorized dealer to your device brand. They can either give you a genuine remote control to your device, or can direct you, from where can you purchase a suitable one.
Needs the button put back into place. Look under the cabinet to see if there is an access panel below the switch, would go for all external controls. There would be a chassis with all the controls mounted to it. Pull the plug before doing any repairs. Look to see what it would look like in it's normal position. Something has moved out of place that holds the switch to the panel. Very tedious if you have to remove the whole housing.
Unplug TV set from the outlet, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, select right input with your remote if you using cable box or Punch the channel that you want to watch if you have cable service connected directly to the TV.
Sometimes when you unplug the set ffrom the wall power or a while 1-2 minutes, and then plug it back in the problem will resolve itself. The DVD may eject. If it does, check it for damage, warping or dirt. If this does not fix it- you probably should take it to a repair center.
I don't know what size TV you have but just installed Direct TV for parents and none of the codes worked after a LONG time my husband tried the Sears codes and got the last one he tried to work. He used 10056. It is a 47 inch LCD Proscan TV. If that doesn't work, you might want to try all of the Sears codes to see if one will work for you. Good Luck
