Download the software after you run the link below ....Put check next to converter/firmware update/Manual download...run the programs follow instructions.......(http://mp3support.sandisk.com/sansa/Installer/1082/SansaUpdaterInstall.exe) here is the link
After installation connect your sansa...... Also make sure you are connected to a 2.0 usb the back of the computer is best (the motherboard)....
mode located on the sansa if asked to change to MSC goto menu press
enter scroll to settings press enter scroll to usb mode press enter
scroll to msc press enter press menu.....Connect should auto start sansa
Updates firmware follow instructions
The player automatically connects to the computer in Media Transfer Protocol mode (MTP mode).
For accessing the microSD card in the player, the USB connection in the player has to be set to MSC mode, see: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/167
Try connecting it to another computer and see if it will recognize it as sansa or removable drive. if it does then download the sansa update software and install it. Make sure you disconnect the sansa and connect it when asked. This will update your sansa and add the Usb Mode. Try to connect it to your computer at home it should recognize.... link for update software (http://mp3support.sandisk.com/sansa/Installer/1082/SansaUpdaterInstall.exe) download to a flash drive much easier Make sure USB mode is MSC I use my computer to drag and drop my music from my music folder to the sansa media folder.... Open my computer click on folder what ever folder has your music in it and drag to media folder and drop (click on the (+)where it say's sansa ) easier not to sync
The songs need to be formatted for a sansa. Use Windows Media Player 11. Don't use Rhapsody, too many problems.
Load a CD into your computer, on the Toolbar of WMP11 click rip, After all songs are ripped, hook up your Sansa to the computer via USB cable, Click Sync. WMP11 will not only sync the sansa it will sync the micro card also. You have your choice where you want to put the music. Drag and drop the music in the box to the left where you synced your sansa and at the bottom of the box click Sync. All music will be synced to your sansa or card which ever one you chose. Understand, when the sansa starts up, the card syncs with the sansa, you don't have to do anything. Try this and let me know how it works.
For everyone having e260 problems here is the answer. First make sure that you have your usb mode on msc before plugging in to the computer. Then go to folder options and select show hidden folders. You now have access to the music folders and can delete music. You can create a new folder or use the music folder for your music. To prevent future problems go to properties on the hidden folders and unhide them.
You could reinstall the firmware (what makes the sansa work). Its pretty easy to do, no need of downloading/installig, its already all in the sansa. You just need a computer
How do I restore the firmware
Firstly, place the e260 in restore mode. To do this, follow these steps
1. Push the Hold button on top of the e260 to the right.
2. Hold in the record button
3. Press and release the Menu button
4. The device will now go into Restore Mode. If you have not already connected the USB cable to your PC, it will direct you to do so.
5. The root directory of the device will open up on the PC screen. Now drag and drop the two files Firmware into into the e260 root directory. You will find a copy of the two firmware files zipped up elsewhere on these forums
6. Push the Hold button on the e260 back to the left
7. Unplug the USB cable from the PC. The e260 will now reboot, writing the new firmware images to the correct location.
8. This process will have wiped all your music files. You will now need to re-synch.
