Do you have the right drivers installed? Either that, or perhaps an IRQ conflict? Try changing the IRQ to an available one. It might solve your problem.

High Definition Audio drivers are usually a bit harder to set up for some reason. If you are running XP SP1, make sure you have the KB-888111 hotfix installed

If your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it

Click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to display adapters + to expand you might see a yellow question mark ? or exclamation mark ! or a red x right click select reinstall drivers

Want to make sure your drivers are in place and no errors have occurred? Simply click start right click on my computer select properties then select device manager scroll to Display Adapters and click on the small "+" you should see the model of your PCI Express graphic card there. If there is a problem with it, a yellow exclamation mark should appear besides it. If you don't see it everything is OK and your card is working properly. Hope this helps

My computer sound is not working

first off, is the driver properly installed?
To verify this, go to
(Windowx XP\Vista\7)

Control Panel
System
Device Manager\hardware

Sound and Video Controllers
Look for yellow exclamation mark, or a red x under the sound and video game options
if you see either marks, right click on the device in question and look for 'update driver', or enable device.

If there are no marks (yellow exclamation, or red x) then the sound card is likely installed and is just muted.

look in the system tray for a speaker icon, right click on it, look for a unmute option, or trey raising the volume

Sound Not Working (discrete sound card)
You probably need to make sure the new sound card is properly installed. Check device manager and make sure the new sound card does not have a yellow exclamation mark next to it.

If the card and driver are propery installed, then you can either disable the onboard audio from BIOS (enter this when the computer first boots up by pressing either F2 or delete several times)

Or
go to control panel, sound, and check the sound card as the default. Do this for .WAV and .MIDI and whatever else you see.

And that should take care of it.

No Sound (integrated Sound card)
check device manager. This can be done in Win XP by right clicking my computer, properties, hardware, then click device manager. Alternative way to enter device manager is by clicking start menu, control panel, system (performance and maintenance), hardware then device manager.

In the deice manager window see if any question marks or exclamation points are visible.

If so, see if it the mark is for an audio device.

If it is an audio device, uninstall the device.

Next, try to install the sound card driver again. If that fails, the enter the device manager and uninstall the sound card again, restart the PC, ignore the hardware manager, and try to install the sound card driver software again.

I can not get any sound from my laptop computer.

First check all the volume controlls and mute function on the laptop ,make sure you dont just have it turned down low or muted.
Next, plug some headphones or an earbud into the headphone jack and check to see if that works.
If you have no sound in either place:Click START - SETTINGS - CONTROLL PANEL - SYSTEM - click the HARDWARE tab at the top - click device manager - scroll down to where you see "sound, video & game controllers - click the + next to it, this will reveal your sound card and if there is no listing of it or a YELLOW exclamation point or question mark, this means it has no driver , is missing a driver or has a wrong driver installed. If ANY of these yellow marks are present, right click on the item thats marked and click on roll back driver, this should reinstall the last driver that was working.
If there is NO driver, you will have to post your laptop brand and model and i will find the correct driver for you and post a link here with instructions.
Hope this is helpful - please ost again if you need further assistance or rate if it solves things for you.

My computer wont play any sound but it definately has a sound card

ok just check sound drivers are installed properly i.e, right click on my computer and select properties in that select hardware and in that device manager there if u find any multimedia and sound controllers option with yellow colour question mark or exclamation mark then u should install drivers for sound. if don't find yellow colour question mark or exclamation mark then the speaker cable which is connected to the machine should be connected to the wave out if that is correct just see sound properties in control panel whether noise level will be low or mute thats it

I cant install Computer Speakers can someone help me? Computer says audio device installed but not working properly. Gives error code 10. What does code 10 mean?

Code 10 means that the sound card drivers could not start.... try this:

Goto START.
Right click on My Computer and select properties.
Select the hardware tab.
Select Device Manager.

Here you should see the audio device with a yellow exclamation mark by it.

Right click on it and select uninstall.

Once that has happened look for ACTION in device manager ( Up by FILE and select scan for new hardware.

IF this doesn't fix it you'll probably need to try downloading the latest drivers for the card or it could be defective!
