I attached a removable hard drive to the usb port on my xbox 360. i downloaded the video update it told me i needed to watch a movie that was on the hard drive, yet it now says "Can't play this content because it may not be supported." status code 69-c00d11e7. the movie was originally purchased from the itunes music store on my mac if that means anything.

.m4v files are supposedly supported. I am using Connect360 for Mac which works great for other video formats thus far except for my one m4v file which should be working...

any ideas on the issue? I saw some posts that it's finicky for some people, sometimes working and other times not...but it's been 0% working for me.

    thanks in advance

You must get a video converter, and then make sure that the result of the format you convert is "3GP" it is the universal video that allow it to flash,, choose 3gp format in order for you to watch it,,

Well as the code has suggested the file type is indeed not supported
convert it to avi to play it on your 360
you can do this with dbpower amp
or just search on google for video converters

I need to find out how to update this system its a brand new system and i want to watch movies off of the flash drive can you help me

Plug your xbox 360 in to a router with internet access or alternatively use a wireless network if you are able using the instructions provided on the xbox 360.
It should update automatically to the latest version of software.
Currently the xbox 360 supports file formats of AVI, WMV, MPEG - 4 Part 2, H.264 and QuickTime movie formats. The file extensions included are as follows: .avi, .divx, .wmv, .mp4, .m4v, .mp4v, and .mov.
Make sure that the movie you want to play is on of these formats.
To check the format that the movie is in, just view its properties window.
There are many video converters out there that will allow you to change the format of a movie if it is no compatible. Simply go to download.com and search for "video converter" or "movie converter".
Hope this helps!

I cant figure out how to update my xbox just to where i can watch movies off of the jump drive / flash drive

You must have a live account and access to the internet. Put the flash drive in the 360, turn it on, go to video library, select the movie you are trying to watch. If it is a supported format is will ask you to download the media optional update (supports most avi, xvid, etc formats).

How can I update my xbox 360 system

To update on Xbox LIVE:
  1. Connect your Xbox 360 console to the internet. If your console is not connected already, see Connect to Xbox LIVE.
  2. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  3. Select Network Settings.
  4. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network if you are prompted to do so.
  5. Select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
  6. Select Yes if you are prompted to update console software.
Copy the Update to a USB Flash Drive If you don't have an Xbox LIVE account or have a slow Internet connection, using a USB flash drive is a good option.
Note: The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system.
Update using a USB flash drive:
  1. Connect your USB flash drive to a USB port on your computer.
  2. Click here to begin downloading the update folder. Save it as "$SystemUpdate9199.zip" anywhere on your computer.
  3. Unzip the File.
  4. Copy the contents from the unzipped folder onto the root of your flash drive.
  5. Safely remove the flash drive from your computer and plug it into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console. If your console is on, turn it off, then back on. The update program will start automatically.
  6. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the console software.

X-box 360s brand new, cannot get it to download the update

Hello

The easiest option to update the Xbox 360 hard drive is to connect to Xbox Live. The console will automatically prompt the user to install any available updates. Alternatively, users can download the update files to a USB flash drive to transfer to the Xbox 360 hard drive.

Update via Xbox Live

Open the Xbox 360 dashboard menu. This menu automatically appears when the console is turned on. Press the "Xbox" button, followed by the "Y" button to return to the dashboard menu from a game.

Scroll up to the "My Xbox" tab of the dashboard menu.

Select "System Settings" from the "My Xbox" section of the dashboard. Scroll to the right while the "My Xbox" tab is selected to reach the "System Settings" icon.

Select "Network Settings" from the "System Settings" menu.

Select "Test Xbox Live Connection" from the network settings. A prompt will appear to update the Xbox 360 hard drive if your system is not already updated to the latest version.

Select "Yes, update now" to install the latest updates to your Xbox 360 hard drive.

Updating via USB Flash Drive

Copy the update files onto the root directory of your USB flash drive. You can download the Xbox 360 update files by going to download.microsoft.com/download/1/d/8/1d8c09be-278e-41cd-98be-eb9188128227/$systemupdate9199.zip. You must extract the files from the .zip file before placing them on the USB drive. The update files cannot be placed into a folder or the Xbox 360 system will not recognize them.

Remove the flash drive from your computer.

Insert the flash drive into the USB port on the Xbox 360 console.

Turn on the Xbox 360. An update prompt will appear when the system powers up.

Select "Yes, update now" to update the Xbox 360 hard drive.

How to stream video through xbox

on the dash board go to media center
write down the 4 digit number and log onto the site it tells you
enter in the number
you will use the media center to look at pics listen to music or watch movies off any windows pc on the network in your house. If you have multiple computers in the house you can access them all with the media center extender.(your 360) it streams all this over your network. sometimes this can be a problem due to lagging. I bought a Western Digital 1terabyte (1000GB) my passport external hard drive and formatted it to FAT32 and backed up all of my music and movies off my computer to it. the external hdd runs off of a usb and doesn't need to be plugged into the wall so I can take it any where. it is a little bigger than my iphone. it works on my 360 and ps3 great. if you have xbox live download the "optional media update" from the marketplace for free to be able to play more types of video formats. you don't need a gold subscription to do this

Thought I would update this post with a fix, download update version 2.0.8955.0 from the internetz and put it onto a usb memory stick. Then simply boot up the 360 with that stick connected and the issue will be resolved. In my case the xbox 360 hard drive still does not work but I can at least use playon to watch netflix!!!
