Does it only appear at max volume or also on a lower volume ?

The problem could perhaps be solved by turning the net plug .. , or one of the cables could also be a problem if the cables are too cheap, they are usually bad earthed ..

A friend who blind has purchase this item some time ago 2007 I believe. We have a number problems with it. 1/ There is a hum of 50 c/s from the deck (I assume from Mains Transformer) when switched on and...

initially it sounds like a ground hum Something is touching ground inside. have you had it open? Look at the out put SSR's and follow them to the out put jacks. can you replace the jacks if need be? have you tried different cables? Does it do it if you use another deck other than the Onkyo. If all looks good and you think the Onkyo is the issue you may have bad IC SSR(s). Do you have the Tech ability to replace the outputs {solid state relays}?
Let us know what conclusions you have come up with. Other wise the sad part is a $110 dollar repair bill or $189 new amp/deck.

How to connect Sony dvd player to onkyo TX-8511 receiver

The TX-8511 is an older AV receiver with only composite video inputs. Your DVD player may not provide this type of output as it's not capable of HD video. If your dvd player has a composite output with a Red, White & Yellow set of outputs, that will connect into the Video 2 inputs on the receiver. Your TV will need to connect up to the Video2 or Monitor output. You'll need a set of composite video cables with the red-white & yellow RCA type plugs.

Here is a link to the manual for this receiver:

My Onkyo TX-SR506 plays cable and CD inputs to zone 2, but DVD won't play. Everything is connected according to the manual and I assigned zone 2 output correctly. What gives?

How are your cable and cd inputs hooked up? Analog connections? Alot of receivers cannot send an audio signal from hdmi inputs to zone 2.

I have no output from subwoofer

Hello Fixya customer,

Thank you for your question.

Please check that the sub woofer and RCA cable are working by removing the RCA wire from the Sub woofer output of the Onkyou and touching the center terminal of the RCA plug. You should here a hum when it is touched.

If you get the hum, then the next step is to "Clear" the Onkyo by holding down the "VCR and Stby" button until you see "Clear" on the display. Warning, this will clear any settings special that you have made to the receiver, but will get you back to the Factory settings.

Lastly, check various sound fields, and the Sub woofer volume setting, if you still do not get sound, please have a Onlyo service center verify the output.

Thank you using Fixya.

Buzzing/vibration noise from ONYKO TX-SR506 unit

If the unit is under warranty, DO NOT open it up. Bring it in for an exchange or warranty service. Explain that the unit makes noise during use and it will be serviced. This could be as simple as a bad connection in the power supply area and you are hearing oscillations or it could be a defective power transformer. Either case will be covered under warranty so there should be no charge to you.

Keep us posted.

My onkyo tx-sr705 produces a humming noise out off all the speakers when no audio is played

I found the source of my hum. I have Direct TV HD. I found that going into the menu settings (Direct tv HD Receiver) /Audio/Sound Effects and turning that option off, I was able to rid myself of the annoying hum. The option has something to do with keeping the audio settings from channel to channel, while it is changing you hear dead air except for the hum. Nice and quit now. Love this receiver!

Onkyo Subwoofer Pre Out Problem

May not necessarily be the out put, discontect the sub from the receiver and see if it still makes a hum, Making sure that you turn auto on, off on the sub woffer.
If it still makes a hum, then you have a earthing problem, you can get a earth filter put on your internal wiring in your home, or you can remove the earth pin on your sub woffer

Hum from speakers

I suspect an open ground or bad cnnection in your hdmi cable to the amp from the sat.A hum is very indicative of that situation
