Re: My son got a brand new memorex MSP-BX1600 CD Boomball

Hi What a sad story! I read that Target has no more of this model, but they won't give you your money back? At least then you could buy another one somewhere else. Where I am we don't have a Target, so I can't say what their return policy is like, but I've taken things like that back to Walmart, without receipt or original box, and they have never given us a hard time! Anyway....It is rare for these units to not work right out of the box, but it happens, the only thing I can say is make sure the disk is not being put in upside down, which happens alot, and that it is not badly scratched or covered in finger prints, barring those two situations, check the manual under troubleshooting or frequently asked questions normally found at the back of the book. Barring those possibilities, the unit is indeed defective, and the best hope then is if you have a local Memorex authorized repair depot, even without the receipt, they can check the date it was made, and possibly repair it under warranty. Hope this helps, good luck!

My memorex MP3851SP Radio/CD Boombox will not play a CD. It is turning but there are times when 01 shows up and others times the word "NO" shows on the screen.

There's a couple possibilities here...
The laser lens may need to be cleaned (use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol or Windex - just DAMPEN one end of the q-tip, and wipe the lens very lightly and dry it with the other end)
the other possibility is that the laser is dying.
The laser mechanism will need to be replaced for a lasting solution, or if you can find the bias adjustment (usually very close to the laser itself) and you can tweak it up just a hair, you may get a few more months out of the dying laser.

Cassette player doesnt play or record, ff or rewind. CD player, AM/FM radio works fine.

If you hear a faint whirring sound from the cassette player while performing these functions, the motor is fine, but you require a new drive belt/s that need to be fitted at an electronics shop. If you hear not sound at all, the motor has died (possibly belts too), again it will require and electrinics repair shop visit.
For the sake of repairing it, it maybe cheaper to buy a new one.

Replace parts for memorex 2x treme mp3851sp. especially an antenna.

If your antenna is simply bent, you can buy a replacement at Radio Shack or other local electronics store. They have a standard screw-hole size so most antennas will work.

The CD player is no longer working. Not sensing it.

buy a cleaning disk, or get a micro fiber cloth, and take the stereo apart and find the laser lens, near the motor that spins the cd, it will be pretty small, gently wipe it clean in one direction, if that doesnt work, the laser has quit working.
