It could be the video card built onto the motherboard or the LCD Flex Cable running from the motherboard up through the hinge to the LCD panel, or possibly the panel itself. It could even mean the Flex cable has partially dislodged from the LCD connector.

Test first by attaching an external monitor. If you get an image externally then the video circuit is good. If not, check your warranty and have it serviced professionally as it would mean a motherboard repair or replacement.

If it is the Flex cable or panel, you may still want to have it serviced depending on your level of expertise. Removing and disassembling LCDs is not very difficult with this model, but it could be challenging if you've never done it before.

Hp probook 470 g1 starts fine but nothing on my screen, works on my tv but not laptop. only a week old have I done something

Right click on desktop -> select screen resolution. Select identify. If external monitor is number 2, select monitor number 1 (laptops monitor) and from dropdown menu select "extend these displays" or "duplicate these displays". Select apply, picture should be shown on both screens.

My HP Pavilion zx8000 screen has dots and dashes lines up & down flicking and pictures I can't recognize.

Hello There,

Lines/dots issues on screen is a bit serious as it can be a full on hardware problem in the long run. What's possibly causing it are conflicts in video driver or LCD/monitor screen problem. Here are the things that you can try :
  • Shut down the computer
  • Unplug all USB devices (except mouse and kybd)
  • Restart the computer and start tapping on "DEL" key repeatedly until you see the BIOS screen
  • Observe for at least 30minutes to 1 hour and see if those lines are present.
If there are no issues while your in BIOS, then operating system re-installation can get this problem fixed. Otherwise, I strongly suggest that you take this notebook to HP's authorized repair center to replace the LCD.

I got thik 2-3 colour line in my leptop

Good day.
Defective LCD monitor circuitry is the cause of your problem. Proceed to your local laptop service center for your screen to be repaired. There are some cases that there are loose or cold sold. The worst is that you have to replace the entire LCD monitor.
Good luck.

Video problem. Pavilion ZE4805US laptop

Most likely it is either a bad lcd inverter, due to the fact that you have clear picture on an external monitor. The inverter reduces the voltage coming from the motherboard to a lower level in order to power the lcd and the backlight. If this goes bad then you either get a picture randomly, a dim picture, or no picture on the lcd.

Black screen with vertical lines through it

Could be faulty graphics chip or faulty screen. If you can hook up external monitor and picture is fine then probably faulty screen. If external monitor shows same problem the faulty graphics chip. Take to repair shop and let them have a look.

HP Pavilion dv5000 screen black - related to broken hinge?

The ribbon that connects the lcd to the laptop circut runs through the hinged area, so when you moved it, the connector came out. Unless you feel confident in taking the frame off and replacing the connector it may be time to get it fixed if you have a warantee left from HP, if you want to try it yourself there are pictures on the site that you can look at, I can give youa link for them or you can just look up your Hp repair manual from the vast knowledge base on file

Thin blue line

Hi!

This is a phisical hardware problem with the screen.
If the system is under warranty better take back so your vendor replace the screen.

I think is the only solution.

This is a progressive problem, day a day you will be seen more and more lines until the screen become death.

Coloured lines

This is a sign that your screen or your video card is going bad. to test which one you need to connect it to a second monitor and look for the lines. If there is lines on both it is your video card, if it is only on the laptop's screen then it is the screen.

HP Pavilion ZD8000 vertical lines issue

Hi,
In answer to your question. It may be a screen problem. as the screen has a Matrix of vertical and horizontal line configuration.
I,d suggest trying the laptop/computer on an external monitor or screen. if it works fine on an external. then it could be assumed that the TFT Panel or invertor has a fault.
if the picture/display still has vertical lines on an external monitor, then the fault may lie, with the Mainboard.

Process of elimination, before spending any Money :)
