Question about LG RC797T
The power went out and now my DVD won't play DVDs. It reads Unknown Disc. The setup function will not allow me to Disc Initialize either. This has happened before but the DVD player started playing again. I didn't do anything.
What can I do to fix it? I tried going back to factory settings but again the player will not disc initialize. There is nothing in the manual about this problem either. If I need to enter a code into the remote how and when and what code do I enter?

hello..Carol..please refer to your user manual and look in the chapter that includes "how to" maybe you don't have to manually initialize the disks..this will be done automatically...keep it easy...please tell me how it went !...good luck...Ron

I have had the same problem a few times. All I do is eject and re-insert the disk until it recognises it, this seemed to work for me

try going to LGs website and look under support/downloads for a Firmware update, or any other updates, and install them (usually by downloading a file, then burning a DVD or CD on your PC to insert in the player.
If this helps solve your problem, please give a fixya rating, everyone of them helps. Thanks for the question

SOURCE: Initializing discs
If you are using the same OS and have made no changes to software, it sounds like the drive may be faulty.
Try a disk cleaning kit and re-install the software for the program you are using.
Example, Try NERO or some other program after cleaning the drive.
Do a un-install of whatever program you may be using and re-install it.
If you can rely on the software, then the drive is probably at fault and should be replaced.
Look in systems information, under hardware configuration and look for problem devices.
Hope the helps.
Try it, it may work !!
