Download and manually update the firmware to version 2.4 for the BD-P1400 from the Samsung site. Burn the image (ISO) to a CD or CD-RW. It will take 20 minutes to do the update. The internet update will not fix the problem. It fixed the problem for me.
I had this same problem with my LG BD390 player. I discovered (through an internet search) that the problem is caused by some kind of BD-Live feature during menu-loading. By switching off the BD-Live function of the Blu-ray player (temporarily) the disc will play normally. At least with my player it did.
It is possible that the disk you are trying to play is the newer format of Blu Ray. To make sure that you have the correct firmware in your machine you need to contact SAMSUNG SUPPORT who will provide you with a file that you burn to CD/DVD and then run to update the BIOS. Then your unit should play the newer format
Some newer blu ray disks will not play. Contact SAMSUNG support site and download the firmware upgrade for your unit. Follow the instructions and then it should behave better.
My dark Knight DVD was only playing the first 4 screens and I burned the firmware upgrade to a CD. It took about 20 minutes from the time I inserted it for it to be complete, then it stopped at 4 again but took about 30 seconds and it began to play perfect.
