Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC42 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Can't Capture I haven't used my camera in a long time, and unfortunately I have seemed to lost my handbook. I remember that I have to set my camera to certain settings in order to capture, but I can't remember which settings. If someone could help me out I'd be incredibly grateful.

I am making discs using the everio share station. Even though I have the date showing when I play it through the camera, it does not show up when I play the disc back. How do I get that to work?

unfortunately, with everio share station will not allow you to do it that way. You really, absolutely need the date and time on the video, you will have to capture the date and time with another device. For example, the one touch video capture vc500 will do that for you. To my knowledge, there are no software out there that can capture date and time at the moment.

Using sony dcr-sr36 as a webcam

Unfortunately is not possible directly - Your cam do not support USB streaming... But You may use any cheap video capture device like Pinnacle Studio movie box or similar to connect Your camera via S-video cable because Your camera has an analog output. Only one requirement - the capture card must have an S-video input or simply RCA video input. It's easy - connect video out and audio out of Your cam to the capture device and then connect USB of capture device to Your computer.
Good luck!

Blurry video recording

Since the camcorder returns to the auto shutter setting and the auto exposure setting when it's switched into Night Capture mode, I would say that might be your problem.  Change your shutter and exposure settings. To do this, switch to Camera mode, turn the menu dial to the setting you wish to change then press enter.  You may have to play with the settings until you get the desired picture. Remember, faster shutter speeds for faster action (stop action), and longer exposure settings for darker situations. Let me know if you need more help.

My mac OS 10.5 driver (disc) for Everio GZ HD7 camcorder?????

Hey Brett, unfortunately FCP and iMovie are looking for a device over Firewire or a capture card (whichever you have set up). The driver off of the disk is actually quite useless under any Mac Os 10. Video editing programs unless older or PC based rarely use USB for video transfer hence why none of the apps are locating the camera. Unfortunately you'll have to transfer the files via USB as data and use a program like MPEGStreamclip to transcode them to a file format those programs will understand. JVC has released updated software but it seems to do nothing at all. I hope this helps.
P.S. you may need the MPEG 2 Codec to do the conversions wether you're using MPEGStreamclip or another application.

Unable to

HHHhhhmmmm. I'd suggest the DV mode and if you camera has the option to output DV as letter box select this, as it is a faster version to edit with (due to compression of HDV). I don't know the camera but VTR is just the playing mode, so play the file you want while trying to connect. Is the signal coming from tape? If it is catured to the harddrive of the camera you will need to import not capture.
USB does not support video, USB2 maybe.

Retrieving data from memory stick

Hello liag, Deactivate the USB streaming function on your camcorder by setting the USB ON/OFF switch (page 65 in your manual) on the Handycam Station to OFF. This will allow you to retrieve info off your memory stick. If you need the manual, it is here: click on the download for "Operating Guide" Please let us know if you need any additional information. Best regards, nightdiver

Bad capture from dv camcorder

I found a capture program called scene analyzer that seems to capture well but it still looks bad after being burned to cd. I read about interlacing possibly causing this problem and software to correct it. I already bought cyberlink power director for $80 and was wondering why they would not include deinterlacing software in their product?
