Does he have a mic pluged in? If so make sure that the boost is turned off.Or make sure the mic is not too close to the speakers. That will cause feed back.

The graphic card could most likely be dead. If when you turn on the computer, you hear a series of beeps, either long or short, it could be a boot error code. Writting down the sequence could give further explanation of the error.

You can get drivers for Win XP here:
http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx
This would be for video graphics driver and catalyst control center only. If you could give me the manufacturer of the card, you may be able to get all the bells and whistles that came with your card. Foe example, an Asus card would also use Smart Doctor, Gamer OSD, etc., Those things you would have to get from makers site or, from installation CD. Let me know.

I had the exact same problem when I installed my Radeon 5670. I fixed it by going to device manager, video adapters, update driver (let it search the web and install). Worked fine after that. Good luck!

I installed my brand new ati radeon 5870 into my dell precision t3500 and when i start up the computer a long beep sound with a loud fan and the monitor shows nothing

You've left something unplugged!Check the motherboard connections and the power connections for the card.Speaking of power, check the system requirements for that card.Do you have enough Watts to run it?Let me know how it goes ,if it won't work with the card installed.Put the computer back the way it was and see if it runs.It will help you to remember what you unplugged to install the new card.

Well if you could open the pc and post me the model that reads on the motherboard to figure this one out, but if the card is build into the motherboard then only solution is to disable / turn off the video card and attach another card to the pc.

but if you can post me the brand / model that reads in the motherboard, its most likely on white text

if you look at this picture, the red circles, see the white text on the board, those details will be helpful..

Thank you

Onboard graphic (vga) chip problem

You never said that you ininstalled the drivers for the cards. Try this:

Uninstall current graphics card drivers. Right-click My Computer and select Properties. Under the Hardware tab, find the button to open the Device Manager. Your graphics card should be listed under the Display Adapter heading. Double-click the name of your graphics card to open a properties window for your current card. Last step: Under the Driver tab, click the Uninstall button.

Install new drivers. Turn on your PC and install the drivers. Windows XP should automatically recognize the new hardware and walk you through the installation wizard. If Windows doesn't detect the card, click Settings from the Start menu. Open the Control Panel and click Add Hardware. From there, a wizard will help you install the new drivers from the CD that came bundled with your new card. It's a good idea to check the graphic card vendor's Web site for more up-to-date drivers, just in case the vendor has released drivers since manufacturing your card. Once you've downloaded the drivers, simply restart your PC. Now, you're ready to start gaming.

If this doesnt work, then your card is BAD.
Let me know how you make out.
