First check to see that your keypad is unlocked. You can lock/unlock the keypad by holding in the PTT button for three seconds. You will see a little lock icon when it is locked.

To set the code for a channel:

1. Press Menu until the CODE number begins to flash.

2. Press the + or - to select the desired code.

3. Press the PTT to save the code.

Note: You can set a different code ofr each channel using this procedure.

Zero (0) equals OFF.

If you continue to have problems, set both radios back to a very basic setting with all special featured turned off and see if you can communicate. Then add the desired features back in one at a time until you have what you'd like on both radios.

Best regards.

Motorola T255

Two thoughts: First, check you batteries. It takes more energy to transmit than to receive. Trade batteries with another known good radio and see if it solves the problem.
Secondly, Check your programming. I don't recall if the T255 has settings for an interference eliminator CODE, but if it does, you may not have your radios set to the same code.

Best regards.

Motorola Talkabout t5000 sold at Costco (several years ago) with a mini T4500. An insert was included so the mini could talk to the others. It says to hold the menu button down and then select 0 for the...

Your frequency and your code are two separate settings. When you walk your way through the menu the frequency choice will come before the code choices. Frequencies will count from 1-14 or 1-22. Codes (aka interference eliminator) will have may more choices and one of them will be Zero. It appears from looking at the T4500 manual that it does not offer "code". So on this one the code is already "zero" (off). On your T5000 you should be able to navigate to the CODE using the menu button, then use your plus or minus button to get you to "zero", then press the PTT button to save your choice.
Best regards.

Our first thought when reading your dilemma is to check the Menu Lock. Holding the Menu button in for 3 seconds will lock/unlock your buttons. You should have an icon depicting a lock displayed on the screen.

Problems setting the Interference eliminator code for a Motorola MR350 Talkabout

Holding in the MENU a long press will turn the LOCK on or off. You will need the menu unlocked for the following...

However, if you press the MENU button repeatedly, not holding it in a long press, you will walk through all the menu items, and there you will see when the CODE number begin to flash. You will also see setting for other features as you walk though the menu. Refer to your manual for these settings.

I have a Motorola Talkabout T5710. I no longer

Perhaps the privacy code has been changed on one of the radios? If you have a manual follow the instructions for setting the codes and make sure they are the same on both radios.

Submerged one t5710 unit crossing a river; no longer transmits.

Probably not.

The electronics in the transmit / recieve circuitry (RF = radio frequency) work very differntly from those in the display and control circuits, which prob ablyexplains why the display works, but not the rest.

The major problem with water in RF circuits is that even after it dries out, it leaves a residue, or worse still some corrosion, which adversly affects the tuning of the RF circuits.

It may be worth trying to dry it out a bit more - put it somewhere warm but not humid like near but not too close to a central heating boiler, for a few days. However, I suspect it is now beyond repair.

What are subchannels used for?

You are referring to the 38 interference eliminator codes. They are used like a filter of sorts. When you program your radio to have any code other than zero, you are overlaying a signal which will only open the receiver on radios which are set identical. So if you are using your radio in an area where there is a lot of radio traffic, you can block out hearing the other users by setting a CODE. They will still be there on your frequency. You will just never have to hear them. (Note: if their code is set to zero they will still hear you.) If you set your code to zero, you are in what is called open squelch or CSQ, you will hear all radio traffic on your frequency.

My t5710 will not stay on a channel.

Your radio is in scan mode. Check to see your scan button is not stuck down in some way. Also, check your owners manual for the directions to shut of the scan feature. Unfortunately, what settings you radio has active when you shut it off, it will remember when you turn back on. If you do not have your user guide you can find one here: http://www.giantintl.com/RadioPDFs/Outdated%20Manuals/T56XX_57XX_User_Manual_E.pdf Pages 22-23
